For anyone who actually cares what is said during Nascar telecasts...
What Mr. Waltrip fails to mention is that the reason the domestic cars are no longer made in the States is because they have to compete with Toyota. Whom doesn't have the high pension, heath care costs and ultimatly lower manufacturing and payroll cost. (When adjusted for the Yen) So Toyota looks and sounds great because the Camary is made in America.
Domestic brands had to compete with the foreign makes and that meant making cars and getting components from the cheapest supplier. The few jobs that the foreign makes have brought back don't compare to the ones lost because they came in the first place.
I don't think it counts because in the global economy Toyota has been profitable for so long that they can spend the cash to produce the car in America for no other reason than to say its home made.
I don't mean to make excuses for the Domestic brands but telling people that the Camry is American made and Toyota employs thousands of American workers doesn't tell the whole story.

might as well strap 125lb dorks in robot suits and call em NFL football players.
Racing is all about the car, which nascrap ain't.

Honestly Jason, I really don't think anyone gives a crap anymore.
The "good-ol' boys" in and around NASCAR are probably the last holdouts, which is why it makes perfect sense for Toyota to jump in, head first. They WILL start winning races, and ultimately championships, in the next few years. And after awhile no one will even think about just how weird it is anymore. Mark my words.

Fusions are in NASCAR. Aren't they built in the US?
Then again, the whole thing is moot. Every car in Nascar is built in the US because every car is made by the same few builders that make Nascar racers.... right down to engines, suspensions, and bodies.
I guess Nascar fans are delusional thinking those cars have anything to do with "Stock" production cars because some of the bozos driving them think this.

Engines for Ford and Toyota only are built by the same builders and given to teams. Chevy and Dodge teams get their own, or lease from others.
Suspensions are unique to each team, and do not come with the purchased chassis, which many teams now build in house.
Each and every body is hand made to fit each car....no two are the same. The only parts that are the same is the hood, roof, and deck lid. In years past the hood, roof and deck were the production skins from the stock cars and could not be altered, as recent as 2002...but with common templates, of course that went to hell.
Anybody who thinks they have anything in common with "Stock" cars......didn't pass the 1st grade.
I'm glad to see that Toyota fell flat on their face. Throwing unlimited money and stealing people from other teams with it didn't work like they thought it would. D.W. can go to hell, he has a vested interest......he owns 2 or 3 Toyotas in the truck series.
As to whether or not the Fusion is made in Mexico....hell, I don't know.
You guys go on to say how the Toyota's race car is built completely by the American's that build the other Nascars....but you say "Toyota" is the one that cheated?
Did the President of their company fly over here and illegally modify this car? No...It was the same true breed Americans that built the other cars.
What you guys say is that Toyota had nothing with building these cars, but everything with cheating? :blah:
I feel sorry for those that were unrightfuly embarrased.

No one in this thread is even talking about the cheating scandal.
Cool down guys. The Toyotas stunk it up pretty good yesterday. DW is cheerleading for Toyota because he and his brother are in up to their foreheads with Toyota money between their Cup and Truck endeavors. He was just self-promoting, which is what DW does best.
I really don't care that Toyota is in Cup now. Keep in mind they have been in NASCAR for several years now via the trucks, and that the move to the top series is just the final evolution of their program.
Anyone that thinks NASCAR has anything to do with production cars in terms of showrooms, etc, has it all wrong at this point. There are still some engine technologies that do transfer. In fact, the latest engine tech is going from production to race (bass ackwards).. The new Chevy R07 motor for this season takes LSx lessons and applies them to what is essentially a next gen SB2 race block/heads combo.

No, not in the traditional sense..they don't compete with their bodies. But if you don't think they are fit, you're a moron. 500 miles flat out bunched with 42 other cars is going to drain you. Most of these guys have personal trainers, workout programs, diets, etc.

+1. YOU try to drive a 3,400 lb. car @ 190 mph w/ no A/C running a motor @ 7,000+ rpm w/ no insulation between it and you other than a paper-thin piece of firewall.

fixed

it was actually a pretty good race. Tony Stewart started off very well, then got messed up in the pits and had to restart back in 40th place, then he worked his way back up to the lead, then he crashed! When Mark Martin in the Chevy powered ARMY car took over I was really hoping that he'd be able to hold on, but Kevin Karvick stole the show by .02 seconds.
