For anyone who actually cares what is said during Nascar telecasts...

The Most Honorable Sellout, aka Darrell Waltrip, just stated to viewers that question the legitimacy of Toyota being in Nascar racing that "seeing as how the Camry is the only car in Nascar that's actually built in America, there shouldn't be any issue." More or less, that's a paraphrase. Oh yeah, he also mentioned 7,000 Americans in Georgetown, KY build the Camry...

To the 13,000 just let go by Chrysler, I salute. With assclowns like good ol' D.W. around (a childhood hero of mine, FWIW), hopefully more of us will be out of work to join you, sooner or later...

I already was beginning to strongly dislike Nascar after growing up watching it during the '80s and '90s. This didn't help...for the record, I understand what he's saying. The problem is, no one actually bothers to think about the bigger picture...that far more goes into auto production than where the car is ultimately produced...

People that don't see the fact that many products are now as good as their competitors, and the fact that there is a larger issue with people not even giving domestics a CHANCE, combined with pretty retarded comments like that, are what makes the hole bigger than it deserves to be AT THIS POINT.

Fusions are in NASCAR. Aren't they built in the US?

Then again, the whole thing is moot. Every car in Nascar is built in the US because every car is made by the same few builders that make Nascar racers.... right down to engines, suspensions, and bodies.

I guess Nascar fans are delusional thinking those cars have anything to do with "Stock" production cars because some of the bozos driving them think this.

It has nothing to do with cars, Guy. Its competition. Man versus man. Me versus you. Wheras other sports like F1 are computer versus computer.

I have a feeling the meaning behind this thread is to show what message is being broadcast to new car buyers right now.

Anyhoo, sorry to interrupt your Nascar bashing...

edit: What's the domestic content for each car?

Guy,

According to D.W., the Fusion is made in Mexico...I don't know for sure myself.

And yes, the point of this thread is the message, not the fact that the ACTUAL racers are all American made. Its just depressing for me...I realize fewer and fewer people, even on this board, really give a crap what company makes their car...

You have to look at it from the other side though. You can't expect people to just up and switch over to domestics because they've finally been turning the ship around the past few years. It takes time.

It's ultimately the manufacturers fault for turning their back on the product and selling it to the masses, expecting no consequences. They were churning out some real garbage for awhile while companies like Toyota took total advantage of that opportunity to win customers over.

I was always used to the Big 3 duking it out in NASCAR. Now that Toyota has been allowed in and they got two of the big name drivers under their belt, I don't know how I feel about the sport anymore. My interest in NASCAR has declined rapidly.

Thumbs down

I'll tell you how fast my interest in nascar declined. I refuse to watch it. Not one minute of it . With the car of tomorrow in place this will be nothing more than a glorified iroc race! Nascar designed the cars, speced all of them out, then tell the drivers to get in and drive. The manufacturers are just there to put their decals on. They have no part in the design. So, its just a big iroc race. The waltrips are on my sh** list now, I cant stand them. Darrel makes me sick. Mikey, I hope your tires fall off. In addition to that, I hope toyota fails, and fails bad! Ok, rant over.

I don't care for Nascar, but was forced to watch here at work. One thing I can't get over is the shameless promotion of the sponsors. For example, you can't say "the car is really running good", its "The M&M Ford Fusion is really running good". And when you win the race, and you want nothing more than to chug a Coke (probably because he'd been staring at that Coke patch sewn on his firesuit right below his face for the past 3 hours), you cant just drink it, you have to hold it in just such a way that the COKE is perfectly framed right between your fingers. Also, it seems you're only thirsty for COKE when the camera is in your face, because you only take hits from it during your inteview, not after you walk off (but the camera is still on you).

Oh oh, and also if your the Home Depot guy, when you get spun out, you and the MONTE CARLO are just fine, and you thank all 500,000 home depotans for all their support, and pledge to "get em next year".

Hilarious.
