Re: Anyone here read HOT ROD?

Ill say this, and I think that most here will agree with me

What would make me NOT buy a 2007/2008 Camaro
Strut/Live Axle, retro body style, and low grade build quality.
and why might you ask? Cause I own a Camaro with Strut/Live axe, and I own a retro body Camaro, and both have quality that does even come near my Malibu.
Why should I spend north of 28k for a car I already have?

We're still handicaped by the Strut setup, the SLA setup is better, albeit more expensive. I read once that Lou Gigliotti said he'd build a 4th gen for a race car before a 3rd gen for that reason.

Drive a new mustang and compare it to the car you already have. Live axel tech has come along way.

Because of weight, (although IROC-Z's are usually in the 3,450 lb. range, sometimes less, sometimes more) being lower, really tight springs, and the way they were tuned for handling as a priority with almost no compliance. Struts and SLA both have their own advantages, but IMO if the 5th Gen has a Third Gen-like setup that's updated with todays technology, I'd be just fine with that. Everything as a whole matters and if it's all done with quality, technicalities like that shouldn't bother many people. Just look at the M*stang, proof that everything doesn't always need to be high tech and that simple sells.

As for looks, I really hope to see alot of Third and 1st Gen in it, but I don't want the car to be based on any Gen all the way. There has to be some new and exciting factor to it.

Re: Anyone here read HOT ROD?

GUYS!!!!!!

Stop already with the 3rd vs 4th gen IRS vs live axle! My 3rd gen "felt" like it handled better, but rode like a truck....my 4th gen rode AND handled much better.....it's called progress.

The decision has already been made! Read the HotRod article...listen to what has already been said a dozen times lately.....

We're getting the Sigma IRS with stamped steel control arms and strut front suspension......no more arguments, it's a done deal.

Other than final styling tweeks, there ain't a lot left to dicker over.....options, maybe.

Model lineup has been determined......engines have been determined, the body configuration has been determined too.

We're just playing armchair quarterback here....on last weeks game no less.....

Struts and IRS is OK, it's like a mix between Third Gen and GTO suspension. But since you mentioned models, whats the deal for us Z28 guys if you know what I mean? The last I heard it was good. Let's just hope so.

Soon, the free ride will be over.

Yes and no, Look at the 99-04 Cobra's. From what all I have read they did not need additional testoing because of the IRS. Back in 93 SVT had planned on a different rear susp. in the original Cobra but the type was going to need further crash testing that SVT did not have the funds to do. I believe it was a 3 link set-up.

IMHO, Just MHO! If they are going this far to put the struts in why would a stickaxle be left out of the question? Hell the 05 Mustang is getting great reviews with it. I personally love that the next Cobra will have one under its anus. Makes the choice of getting ride of my 04 no problem.

Re: Anyone here read HOT ROD?

What I hope we see with the new car is something that could combine the great looks and proportions of the 3rd. gens w/ the sleekness of the 4th gens. If the new car has styling cues from the 1st. and 2nd. gen cars that wouldn't be such a bad thing as long as they are done right. I think it should keep the solid rear...Keep the weight down, keep the price down, and keep the parts count down. And it should keep the SLA, no reason to go backwards here. The build quality really needs to be much better this time around, I don't want to hear people saying they didn't buy the car because it felt to cheap. There is no reason the new car has to feel like it's going to fall apart when it's brand new. If people complain they didn't buy it because it rode to hard, or it was too fast and it scared them or they thought it was just too extreme in general, I dont have a problem with that though, lmao
