Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
There were all sorts of anarchist bombings and even a presidential assination in the 19th century. It really depends how one wants to define "terrorist", but it was certainly long before the 1960s.

Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Caps -- that is truly a great post -- and if that does not wake up America, I don't know what will.
As I said - I love this country.
I love the fact that I can get on a jet (altho be somewhat accosted just before entering the aircraft) and fly anywhere in this country I want to -- or, for that matter, anywhere in the world.
I love the fact that I can go into a grocery store and see untold aisles of selections of any type of food imaginable. (go to most foreign countries and see if you can do the same thing......)
I love the fact that I can disagree with the Government -- and unless I'm making a serious threat --- I can get away with it.
I love the fact that I have the best standard of living overall that the world has ever known.
So excuse me when I blow up at people who complain about the United States --esp. those countries that we continually give money to in order to save their sorry a*$W.
Yup.......I'm politically incorrect as hell tonite.

Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
and you know what Scott, its your god given right to be a politically incorrect as you want..thats what makes america great..would love to post the propaganda crap N.Korea put on thier airwaves..you should see it..its basically everythign they are, they say we are and for us to go F themselves..
Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
It is essentially a given that fewer Japanese would have died in an invasion than did in the bombings. From 100%, you have nowhere to go but down. I'd even be willing to bet that the total deaths would be lower even after adding in the number of American soldiers that would have been killed.
I'm not saying it was the wrong move, but to say that people with Japanese heritage should be glad it happened the way it did seems pretty ridiculous to me.

There was an estimate of 1 million casualties for the Allies if they fought a land battle in Japan. How many locals do you think would of been killed?
Have you watched any documentries on how hard it was to flush the Japs out of the pacific? The Japanese citizen's (not soldiers) of the islands killed themselves before being captured alive.
Do you know how hard they fought in PNG on Australia's doorstep? Do you know anything about the battle of the coral sea?
My guess is a big fat NO, I for one am glad we had the Americans as allies and did what they had to do against the Japs. Why else is Australia the only nation to follow the US into every single war since WWII?

Here's a couple of interesting links for those who want a quick lesson of why we're in Iraq and Afganistan....

Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Incidentally, I was watching TV with my college buddies the other day, and Lexus' self-parking car commercial came on. They were mesmerized, and talked about it for a couple of minutes after. These guys aren't "car people." I don't think any of these guys would glance twice at the Chevy commercial other than to say John Mellencamp sucks (no offense to Mellencamp fans).

Re: Anyone have any thoughts about this?
True enough, Eric, but as I posted above, just about any commercial makes an attempt to appeal to human emotions in one form or another. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes they are whimsical. Sometimes they try to make you feel safe and secure. Sometimes they go after sadness and pity.
In all seriousness, there are ads that I feel make a positive appeal to emotion, and then there are some that feel like they're just pandering in that lowest-common-denominator fashion. The Silverado spots firmly resides in the second catagory - for me. I might not be the key demographic for this slot, and that's fine. There's a 99% chance that my next truck will come from GM, but that's in spite of an ad campaign that uses a cheesy song from John "don't call me Cougar" Melloncamp and a bunch of politically-charged visuals.
As I said, though - that's just one person's opinion, and from a person that pretty much detests about 90% of the advertising he sees on TV.
How about the Ford Freestyle ad that featured a divorced mom driving the kids over to the ex-husband's house for the weekend?
