"What should they call it?"

Answer - Nothing. Don't bother making it if it won't be called Camaro.

thinking about it, it would probably be better in the long run if they called it something else. Just look at the fight over Z28 or SS. To totaly avoid the crap they got from the GTO camp over the 04, and possible crap they might hit if for some chance they name the top model SS or Z28, I think just making another name would be a good idea. Maybe call it the Panther like they were gunna call it first.
But then I think, what if Pontiac brought the Monaro over here and called it the Pontiac Monaro. Would Poncho guys be upset that they didnt call it "GTO"? I mean, its a midsized coupe that looks timid, with a large output engine with a twin port grill, and horizontal headlights, and a manual. Name a Pontiac Muscle car that fits that discription.
There are some people that think that the Camaro name should just be put to rest. There was a 10 page poll on LS2.com talking about this, and 80% of the votes was to kill off the name Camaro.
In all honesty, if Chevy came out with a small, $25k, 380-400hp coupe with a 6spd, good styling and good handling, I would like to see Camaro on it, but if they called it something else, I would still buy it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that all the hints we have gotten indicate that the new Chevy coupe was clearly styled as Camaro...

Exactly, and thats what it should be called. Makes no sense if you style a car after the Camaro, then name it something else. If they dont wanna call it Camaro, it shouldnt be styled after it. I mean, someone walks down the street, sees the "new chevy coupe" in a parking lot and says "Wow! Thats the new Camaro!". They walk up to it to check it out and "I thought this was a Camaro. It looks like one. What are these (insert generic name here) badges on it for??"

I agree, if the car looks like a Camaro and carries that air with it. How can it be possibly called anything else? If they dip into the history book, I'm faily sure no other name they have used in the past could apply. For example, Chevelle is certainly not a Camaro, the perceptions are different. Yes Chevelles can be sporty, but never on the Camaro's level. Corvair? Bel Air? Del Ray? Nova or Monza? Can't see it happening.

For me, the bottom line is this; if it looks, performs and behaves like one expects of a Camaro, then it should be called Camaro - otherwise back to the drawing board and design a car that doesn't ooze CAMARO-ness.

I think it will be called Camaro, from what I heard the F-body plant in Canda is being demolished and GM is no longer in legal red tape on using the Camaro name.
If the new car looks like a Camaro and has the same character as the Camaro but isn't called Camaro, I will be very p!@@ed.

If they name it something else and it really doesn't look or have the character of the Camaro, I can live with it.

If they don't use Camaro, I'd say they would use Chevelle because they recently revived the GTO, which was a rip off of Ferriari to start with
