It's not like GM to give out the new Corvette powerplant until at least on eyear after the Corvette had it by itself...

Are you sure it is a LS2 and not a truck 6.0L V8 with LS2 levels of HP? I thought the LS2 was just a car engine, either way it is good news.

 

I think its about time we lost the mentality of the Vette being king. Its just another rule that will be broken by GM, like they did with the GTO. Its just thing that needs to be broken. No more vette gets it this year, we get it next year. I think that if GM wants to stay compeditive, they need to let a lot of BS go. Vette being king is one of them. There will always be a faster Vette in the Z06.

With that said, Im sure the raiting of the LS2 will be the much rumored 385hp. I do like that news! Where is the article from GM? Link?

It cost $50k... Corvette buyers deserve something for putting out that kind of money.

I dont think that the idea of the Vette having stuff to themselves, and not sharing with others needs to go.
Vette will always be king. You buy a Vette because of the history. I cant stand that stereotype of the Vettes. 2nd to that of third gens.

 

But....

Corvette is Chevrolet's Halo Car... It's GM's technology showcase.

Yes, you buy a Corvette partially for the image/history , but saying people do not buy Corvette because of being basically the ultimate all around performance package is not fair at all.

Corvette is expensive, but you get performance that rivals cars two...three time as much or even more.

Plus, it's not like LS1 and LS6 have not been seen in other cars (GTO, F-cars, CTS-V)... but it's not unfair that Corvette at least gets it first.

 

LS2 has various applications and that's not including cars


Remember that the LS1 and LS6 are being phased out and so automatically the LS2 is the successor (for all immediate as well as possible applications)

No problems with having hte LS2 in other vehicles the same time the Vette is released... Worse comes to worse, underrate it.

 

Don't buy into stereotypes Al. I do think that there should be various cars faster than the base Corvette, Z06's no, but base yes.

 

I'll sum it up bluntly, and probably get flamed for this, but I am willing to bet that the vast majority of those who complain about "other cars" not being faster than a Corvette for a cheapert price from GM are those who cannot afford a Corvette.

 

Is the Corvette rule faster or more HP?

GTO, SSR, CTSv, etc.. none will be faster than the base Vette even if all 4 get a LS2 rated at 400HP. The Vette has at least a 500lbs. advantage on all these cars/truck.

Neither Corvette rule should apply to Caddy (as long is that faster caddy cost more)

 

Its ok, this part of the site is not totally devoted to the 5th gen, but any future car. You could name it something like "SSR gets LS2!"

 

Actually, I'll bite a bit on this... If I won the lottery tomorrow, a Vette wouldn't even be on my top 5 list of GM cars to own. Possibly a late 50's Vette, but definitely nothing made in the last 30 years. The first thing I would do is get a hold of a Firehawk, next would probably be a '69 Camaro, I would keep my '94 and mod it to hell, then I'd probably get some rediculously modified TrailBlazer or something for a grocery getter. To me, Vettes are fine, for "other" people. I am not a Vette person, regardless of income. Believe me, I've thought about possibly trading in for one, but I truly don't like them. Don't get me wrong, the I know the value of the car and the powertrain is spectacular, but it's just not me.

More on the subject, I really don't have a problem with the Vette being king... As long as GM doesn't stop me from modifying another GM car to beat one.
