Unhappy Although it scares me...Chevy's new RWD coupe, what could they call it?

As mentioned, the thought of calling Chevy's new RWD coupe something other than Camaro is scary and kinda sad....What I don't understand is if it's styled after Camaro ie looks like a Camaro what could they call it?
Would they use a name like "Z28" that actually has a connection to the Camaro nameplate. For those who know care to shed some light on this one...

Thats what I've been thinking about lately. If its at all possible to name the car Camaro, I think they should name the car Camaro (duh ). But not only bc I fully support the return of the "Camaro", but because if the chevy coupe has past Camaro styliing cues, when people see it on the road, they're instantly gonna think Camaro, which would throw away the point of naming it something different.

if they arent going to name it 'camaro'... perhaps because of legal or other reasons, if they would entertain the thought of putting the camaro symbol on it, especially if they call it something along the lines of 'z28'. maybe attach the symbol to a new name to douse some of the flames the enthusiasts will raise. Is that feasible? or even a good idea?

There's only one name in my book, and that's "camaro". No other name (even z28) would be fitting. Could you imagine a v6 z28? Almost as bad as badging the camaro under a different name.

The chevy coupe (camaro we're hoping) just wouldn't be the same without the proper name.

I would think they'd come up with an all-new name if the do not use Camaro.

I'd think Panther might have a small chance, but they probably wouldnt want any Camaro reference at all...

Let's hope it never comes to this, though.

There is no doubt it should be called Camaro. As someone with an extensive marketing background I am amazed at how a certain car czar seems so willing to throw so much of the companies heritage in the trash bin. A successful ad campaign could focus on the companies great heritage while linking it to current popular models. How would a japanese competitor respond to an ad like this? Many of these gm names have huge brand recognition, something which can be very costly to build. Some people may not be able to identify with a GM which is missing old recognizable names. The old saying goes if it isnt broke, dont fix it.

A company shouldnt discard the 3rd most well known name, using a favorite gm word it should be "leveraged." While the name debate rages on Ford has the market all to itself with no time wasted as to what their car is called. These naming decisons should come from the marketing dept/brand mgr and not higher up!!!

Think of all the adv $ that will be used to promote new names which could be used instead to develop even more new models.

I see were you are going with that but it wouldn't even be close. GT is used as a model on Many cars. Z28 is only used on one. Z28 is more like Cobra or Mach 1

Very well said! I as well had pointed out in one of my other posts that a certain person can't seem to throw away the name fast enough...
Also I do have faith that performance from the General is on the way, I just hope it's called Camaro.
It's obvious that RP is trying to pull together support from the enthussiast in order to prove that the nameplate needs to be brought back...I wonder who specifically he is presenting the case to.
