Wink Daaaang Robbie.....

I guess you guys are making me feel ancient, I’m also like Scott, “somewhere between 45 and dead”…LOL!

Been married well over 25 years to the only girl I ever dated….got two great kids, 23 and 16. My wife is my best friend and a true supporter of my various hobbies. You’ll see her at many of the events I attend….(and not a bad looker, if I don’t say so myself) My son is a born-into-it, gear head……my daughter has it bad too, but she’s smart enough to study hard and go for the big $$.

I’m a Project Manager for a small architectural firm in my home town and also a bluegrass musician for the last 30+ years.

I’ve been an officer of the Central Indiana Camaro Club for some ten years now (although I am finally retiring this year! ) and have been an avid car enthusiast form the time I knew what a car was.

Here’s a list of my F-body involvement…..at least to date…LOL!!

1. I owned a 1968 Firebird V8 Coupe for a few years until my son was born in 1979.
2. Bought the 1969 Z/28, in the late 1980’s, in the weeds in Bloomington, IN and restored it. Sold it to help pay to finish my house in 1991.
3. Bought a 1969 Firebird Convertible to have fun with…sold it so I….
4. Bought a 1969 RS/SS Indy Pace Car Convertible in Jan 1990, restored it over the next 11 years and ended up trading it to my brother-in-law for my current project.
5. Somewhere in the 1990’s I bought a 1969 SS, 375hp, 4speed L-78 car and restored it to the point of needing it painted and then…..
6. Traded it for a 1969 Z/28 that had been drag raced for years. It was a real Z/28 but had been “back-halved”, but I re-wired and re-plumbed it for street duty. Left the 100 over 427, 13.5:1 big block alone though!.
7. Some time in the late 1980’s I also bought a 1986 IROC Z/28…great car.
8. In 1993 I bought a 1989 Camaro V8 coupe for the wife to drive…sold it a few years later.
9. After selling the IROC I bought my current 1994 Z/28. I’ve modified nearly everything on the car…... Different engine (383 LT4) was an automatic, now is a 6 speed manual, racing brakes, racing suspension, etc…….
10. My current project is a 1969 RS/SS that I got in trade with my brother-in-law for the Pace car project. I’ve changed the entire drive-train to a heavily modified one from a 1993 Z/28/ I also changed it to 4 wheel disc brakes and full after-market gages. I also run 17”x9“ wheels and performance tires….along with suspension modifications, etc…..you get the picture.
11. I also bought a 1996 Z/28, 6 speed, that sold to my nephew.
12. My son’s first Camaro was a 1994 V6 that we bought from a guy in our Camaro Club….of course he modified it heavily and drove it back and forth to college…he has a degree in High Performance Technology from NW Univ. in Lima, OH.….like he’d do anything else!
13. When that car got a little tired, we bought him a 1997 V6 Camaro that was a theft recovery, ad put it all back together for him to continue to commute to college with.
14. Wanting more power he bought his current car, a 1994 Z/28 and has built, broken and raced a few different engine combinations and is currently being built into a full out race car w/ a SB2.2 headed, 410 cu. in. LT1, wheelie bar, chute, etc…..kids…LOL!

That’s the list to the best of my memory…..

I'm another 45+ person.

I work for GM and have had the pleasure of speaking with Red Planet from time to time. He is a car person, I can assure you.

I own an '02 Z06 but have had many many Camaros.

All my Camaros have been Z/28's starting in 1969. All I bought new.

I had a '70'1/2 next, a 1979 that I promply removed the automatic, engine and diff and installed a M21 trannie, massaged solid lifter LT1 and 12 bolt 3:73, I went to an '82 Z in '82, and in 1995 in got into a 4th gen which I modified to be more appropriate for road course as well as street.

There have been other cars in the in between as well but this is an primarily F-body interest area so I won't bore anyone with the details.

I'm into road racing but haven't been on a road course in some time. Have lots of friends into different kinds of automotive motorsports.

I follow this place fairly regularly.

My name is Tom, I am 22 and live in Sterling Heights, MI.

I currently work for GULP Ford as a Mainframe Analyst. The money is great but I have recently decided that IT is not what I want to do so I am working on getting out of it. Believe it or not I have been in it for almost 5 years.

I had an 01 SS(SOM, 6speed, loaded) that I had to sell do to money and other issues earlier this year but I hope to have another one as soon as I can.

Not married, no kids.

I'm 32, ex-army guy. Now I'm in a LAN support team for a hospital chain. Love drag racing and autocrossing the AWD.

You can do an exhaustive search to find that I was the 1st to say The Camaro will be back. There will be a 5th gen. MARK MY WORDS!!!

I'm Charlie. I'm not as old of a fart as say, Doug or Scott...but I'm older than most of you. I'm 42.

I am married with 3 kids.

I considered a career in the military, but somehow ended up an optometrist.
I've been crazy about cars ever since I can remember. But in the fall of 1966, at the tender age of 6, I saw my first Camaro....something clicked inside of me...and I haven't been right since.

Although my automotive world revolves around Camaros....I really LOVE all cars. In fact...if it's got a motor, wheels, wings, rotors, tracks or turret I'm into it.

One of my other hobbies is military history. And from that I can tell Guion that he was either on the USS Princeton or the USS Tripoli in 1991.

This is a pretty cool thread... good idea!

I'm *a few years* past 40, father of 2 little tykes, and married 14 yr. I'm fascinated by automotive design and have a silly 1/64 die cast collection/common hobby with my tykes. Wife is a COBOL programmer and software test specialist, I'm a technical coordinator for a small consulting firm, helping with CAD/CAE software projects for the auto industry.

I've taken some heat now and then for being too biased for GM, sorry if I've bothered some. I really have no clue as to why I like GM's cars the most. A lot in my family had Fords when I grew up. I learned to drive in my Mom's Maverick and it actually was a fun, flingable car for its day. Maybe it was my brother (now deceased) -- who had a 57 Bel Air and a 64 Impala SS about the time I was a teen. Plus our neighbor on one side had a light yellow (technically I think it was called "Mayfair Maize") 1968 Camaro, and our other neighbor had a red 1960 Impala convertible. I remember drooling over pix of the first 3gen's when I was in college, but couldn't afford the insurance until just a few years ago when I got a 99 Formula. I've since traded the Formula on a 2002 TA and last year was also fortunate to finally be able to get the 3gen of my dreams, a 1990 IROC-Z

I'm daniel,

I'm 29 and a systems engineer at JPL. I'm currently on my second Camaro see sig. My previous Camaro was an '84 V6 ( donated to me by my bro). I first learned of the Camaro when I was 12. My older brother bought an auto inline6 '69 from an old lady for $900. I watched him and his friends do an engine swap (350 w/ 4 bolt mains, Comp Cam, Edelbrock intake, Holley 750 4 barrel, Mallory Ignition, Hooker Headers, ...), a tranny swap ( 3 spd. powerglide to a Muncie 4 spd.), a Rear End Swap to 12 bolt (from a salvaged '79 Trans Am 400 I think), brake swap (drums to all around disks from the TA), plus all sorts of suspension mods. Oddly enough the car remained primer gray to the day he sold it to one of his friends. He'd let me go cruising with him sometimes. I loved that car. In any case, his obsession became my love affair too.

When I heard the F-body was ceasing production, I cursed, lamented, and then saved up enough for a down payment. I was hoping that GM would see a sales spike and change its decision (denial). I took delivery on 8/16/2002 (my B-day gift to myself) and we couldn't be happier. I frequent this web-cite because IMHO it has the best 5th-gen forum. I anxiously await the 5th gen. Hopefully we all won't have to wait too long.

I'm a bit late on this one, just got back from a week long snowboarding trip about 2 hours ago. But about me...

Hi everyone, I'm Dan. I'm 19 and a double major in math and econ as a sophomore at UC San Diego. I'm on a partial ride here for academics. After school I'm planning pursuing actuarial science or going onto grad school and going for an MBA depending mostly on whethere I get a transfer to UCLA or UCSB but that's a whole long story that's taking up a good portion of my time to figure out.

As for Camaros, I began to love them once I got my license. Before, I always thought of a car as a mode of transportation between two points and never cared for anything performance oriented at all. My family had been rooted in muscle cars but my parents hadn't passed it onto me. My grandfather had always been known to live with a small block stripped down in the garage and wrench in his hand. My mom was his second hand and was always there to help and learn. Within the past few years my grandfather has been working in a small speed shop in the Bay Area of California to cure his post-retirement boredom. But my mom became a housewife and my father didn't share that car interest. But one trip to his place I wound up behind the wheel of his El Camino that he had recently dropped a fresh 383 inside of. A few months later I wound up riding shotgun of a 500+hp 454ci '70 Camaro. Since then I had developed the respect and love for muscle, power, and speed. My views changed greatly and the rest was history. Many of my friends in high school wound up with 3rd gen f-bodies and I was there in every way. True, I have never owned a Camaro but it has always been the car I have desired the most. I read this board a lot mostly because by the time of the 5th gen, I will hayve graduated and have a the money for a 5th gen. Hence, my interest in this board so much.

I'm an 18 year old college student at Cal Poly majoring in Bus. Admin.

I drive a 95 z28 and am restoring a 70 z28/rs with my dad. I hope that after I graduate college and am making good money I will be able to buy a fifth generation Camaro.

Cool

I'm 24 and yet I considder myself a long time Camaro/Firebird lover. Actually I classify my interests as American Muscle. I just graduated from Rochester College this past Friday with a bachlors in Business Communication. I got hired by Honeywell this past Monday in the Bendix brakes, marketing division working on the catalogs for new parts. Past jobs have been at Magna Int'l in design and GM Design. As you can see from my sig this is my third Camaro in a row. The fun and enjoyment never die and every time I get in and start the car I smile. Its like the first time all over again. I enjoy drag racing and almost anything automotive. I considder this past Aug 27th to be an automotive tragedy. But I hope to see a glimpse of the future at this years NAIAS!

Talking I can't beleive I'm doing this...

I'd like to open with a comment...
I have to say that this is one of the best, most interesting forums I visit. I check in almost every day unless traveling or on weekends, and even when the subjects aren't very interesting, I can still pick up some good information or ideas. I would like to thank all the "frequent fliers" in this forum for being professional, mature, and generally "cool" on this board...

OK - now 'bout me...

I go by my middle name "Greer". I like it simply because it is unusual, like me!
I'm 34, born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC - pop @700K - home of RJ Reynolds Tobacco, Hanes Apparel, and Wachovia Bank, NA. (now First Union/Wachovia). I received my machinist apprenticeship at 20, then got my BS in Industrial Technology in '90 (concentration in Manufacturing, minors in Physics, Computer science, and Math). I continued and got my Mechanical Engineering degree in '95, and passed the EIT exam for North Carolina, and I am waiting to take my PE exam for professional certification by NC. I graduted with my last degree with an '86 Bronco II (with +200K miles), living in a 12'x65' '72-model trailer, BROKE, and owing for my education, but I DI IT!!!

I now live in Yadkinville, NC (@25 miles out of W-S), in a nice brick 2-story, on a 65 acre farm. We, make that the wife, has 3 horses (Arabians), frontage on a nice mountain river, and no neighbors for @1000 yds. I married the first girl I ever asked out on a date - my high-school sweetheart. We dated thru HS and college, for a total of 8 yrs, been married for almost 12, have a daughter 4, and a Pug named 'Dude' who's 11. We grew up living 2.5 miles apart, but never knew each other until a school rezoning put us in HS together in 11th grade - talk about fate...

I work for PPG Industries (as in Formula 1, CART, NASCAR sponsor - globally, we do paints, finishes, glass, fiber glass, chemicals, coatings, and who knows what else!) In particular, I design the manufacturing and processing equipment used to make fiber glass. I have sole responsibility for the design and safety of our attenuation machines (winders for short) all over the globe. (We too get to see new body panels and such - especially when manufacturers work with us in developing new materials for them - we have new Vette and '02 Camaro parts on display in our Tech Center right now.) Prior jobs include CNC programmer, Machinist, Tool and Die maker, engineer for AMP Inc, land surveyor for NC - DOT, and working construction on college summers.

Though I have worked all my life, I have been on a legit company payroll since I was 8. I was "raised country". My chores included splitting and bringing in wood for the woodstove, keeping the yard mowed/trimmed, keeping the cars washed/clean, and home maintenance, ON TOP of room cleaned, vacuuming, taking out trash, etc. - and NO, I NEVER GOT AN ALLOWANCE!
I got whipped with a belt when I needed it, bragged on when I deserved it, and I love my parents DEARLY. My mom and I are very close, and my dad is my best friend - we work on cars together, as well as hunting, fishing, golf, and anything else outdoors. I also like snow skiing, skating/blading, raquetball, basketball, and "mind games" like chess, poker, solitaire, etc.

I am called a "perfectionist" by my friends and family (not me though!). I have foam cutouts for all of my tools in my roll-around boxes, my shop walls are lined with pegboard and everything has "a home". The floor is epoxied in tan, etc. I just think I'm "neat"... geez.

We have no cable or satellite TV at my home (cable not even available! ) I don't miss it either... I'm into music and work or play. I have between 500 and 600 CDs ranging between Allison Krauss, Quiet Riot, and Chopin - Country and Pop/Rock are my favorites, followed by Jazz, R&B, Blues, and Bluegrass. I took violin in scool for 4 years, so I play "the fiddle", guitar, and piano -casually- by ear. I enjoy turning on the radio and working on an old car, or fishing, etc. I also read a ton. I love knowledge and details.

I grew up in a family that had settled into Fords after trying everything else from GM trucks to the lowly Cimca. As fate steered me into marriage, so did it into Mustangs... my father "found a deal for me" in an '81 sedan for my 1st car - he offered some help so I took it. As I mentioned earlier, my school system changed zonings and moved me into a different Sr High than I was supposed to go to - I went from a potential R.J. Reynolds "Demon" to a Parkland High School "Mustang" - Yup, that was my "new" school mascot. So I drove a Mustang and was a "Mustang"... it just got worse from there!

With the exception of an '86 5.0 T-bird, an '88 Ranger 4x4, and my original '81 Mustang, I still have every car I have ever owned. After radically modifying a '71 mach 1 to "go fast", I discovered that old musclecars could be money-makers, so I began to look at values and view the cars as investments as well as toys. I chose to study the Mustang in depth, beleiving that knowing as much as you can about 1 model makes you a more savvy buyer than knowing "something" about many models. I have many friends that collect Camaros, GTOs, Firebirds, etc. and we have a GREAT relationship because we have all specialized in one type of car - so when I run accross a GTO sitting someplace, I don't even think of buying it - I immediately call a buddy and put him on it. Likewise, my buddies call me all the time saying "I saw a Mustang sitting in a field at...". As a mechanical guy, I can honestly say that I love all muscle cars and historical American Iron. The first Vettes, the '57 Bel-Air, the '57 T-bird, even the early Corvair and Edsel are special to me because they were attempts to break the molds at the time.

I began coming to this board seeking to help in keeping the F-cars, as well as to gain some insight into the potential of a next Camaro once I heard the F-bod was to die. While I found some Camaro info (not all good news as history revealed), I was more taken with the level of knowledge most of you have on general car information, and the feeling of comeradery between performance car enthusiasts. I read for months without posting, but after seeing some VERY wrong references to Mustang's past, I couldn't resist so I registered to clear-up an issue. I was well received (and I appreciate that BTW ) and just kept comin' back. I definitely learn more here than I bring in, but I hope that my knowledge of the Mustang, what that car has been through, and the relationship it had with Camaro, can offer some insight into what the Camaro means to me, and what it means to the livelihood of the Mustangs I cherish.

To that end, here's hoping GM has the wherewithall to bring back the Camaro in a manner fitting to it's heritage and committed to pleasing both the average consumer AND the enthusiast.

Peace to all,
Proud

Not much to say here. I'm 34, a senior buyer at General Motors of Canada, and an avid follower of the auto industry.

Haha, you're English seems to be better than a lot of the members on this website!

My name is David. I am 18, single, and I am a senior at an all boys Catholic high school. I am a co-captain of our track team. Our HS is affiliated with the University of Notre Dame because the people who started ND, the Brother's of Holy Cross, also started around 30 or 40something other colleges and high schools across the United States, and there are others in other countries.

I've always been into cars, ever since I was a little boy. I used to love trucks! Now, I love sports cars. I lean on the domestic side, but I still like the respectable imports. My dream would be to own a fast domestic car, and one fast import. For the domestic, I'd listen to ricers say, "Pushrods suck! Our HP/liter is better!" and smoke them. Then for the import, I'd listen to domestic guys say, "What a riced POS!" and smoke them

My brother and I love F-bodies. My brother owns a 97 V6 Camaro vert, and I my Firebird. I got into F-bodies when my brother bought an 87 T/A. What a POS that was! Someone turned back the odo and swapped the Poncho 305 for a Chevy 305! Then he bought a 95 V6 Camaro, and someone hit that, and now he has his 97.

I like to play pool and sit on the computer as hobbies. I golf occasionally with my father. My dad is hardcore into golf, while I am hardcore into cars. Maybe someday I'll be hardcore with him, but for now golfing is a once in a while thing. My dad never was into cars, he considers them as transportation. But he's still my dad and I love him to death. We have other things in common anyway: we love to watch sports together on the TV, and we fall asleep at the same time , he likes pool too.
