Chevrolet Cruze
A new name and a new design for an all-new car
Detroit - Chevrolet announced today that its all-new entry in the compact segment will be called Cruze. The new Chevrolet will make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show in early October.
Cruze was developed by a global design and engineering team and will be built in multiple locations around the world. The Cruze approaches an overall length of 4.6 meters and offers ample interior space and cargo capacity for five passengers, giving it an advantage over competition in the compact segment.
The Cruze features Chevrolet's new global design language that will continue to be a signature element for future vehicles carrying the gold bowtie. Combined with high safety standards and excellent build quality, Chevrolet will again deliver on its promise of offering a very attractive package at an exceptional value.
The new Chevrolet Cruze will be available in European markets in Spring 2009, followed by other global regions

The Cruz will take over the Cobalt.
I really wish they left the Cruz name over seas. Cobalt has had some success here, its now known as Chevy's compact car. They spent a lot of money in the development of the Cobalt SS SC and TC, building up a rep for this car.
If I was a Cobalt fan, Id start writing into GM to keep the name here in America.

Yes.
I actually like the name.
Now I'm confused. Doesn't GM already sell a rebadged Suzuki Swift as a Chevrolet Cruze overseas?

So Cruz is essentially the next Cobalt, according to the article. Also makes sense, based on dimensions.
My goodness is there confusion about this. So there will be:
Beat < Aveo < Cruz/Cobalt < Malibu ...
Now what's with the talk about a "new" GM car that will be slotted between Aveo and Cobalt, sporting a 1.4L engine, and yet be priced above Cobalt? That makes no sense.
I'm piecing together that Cruz is the new Cobalt (Cobalt replacement), and it will use the 1.4L engine (optionally).

So there will be no 2009 Cobalt? I thought Cobalt was going to continue as-is until the 2010 model year?
So much for the Cobalt SS with the turbo... I guess that'll end up being a VERY limited production run in its current format... less than a year.
Too much stuff doesn't make sense about all of this compact car talk. All I know is I hope GM really makes something out of it... this is their shot to get out of this mess.

And no where was it ever said (at least by GM) that the Cruze would be "slotted" between Aveo and Cobalt.
