Re: 2008 Nissan Skyline
I feel the same way. In the $50K's I would be excited about it, but at $80K it gets put in a whole new league. AWD turbo 4's (STI/EVO) are in the $30K's, I could justify a 15-20K bump to step up to an AWD turbo 6 and more luxury, but an extra $50K is too much.
Re: 2008 Nissan Skyline
I think you hit the nail right on the head. I see it as a modern day VR4, $50K is were it should be.

I love it when people derride a car based only on conjecture, rumor and other "facts"!
If the next GT-R can set another track recored or even get near the flat 7 second mark at Nurburgring as the article suggests it would be a significant accomplishment; even the vaunted Porsche Carrera GT is at 7:28.

Re: 2008 Nissan Skyline
'Cause 450hp and 3200 lbs. won't get a 7 flat unless you drive across the infield. And this here vehicle is going to clock in well north of 3200 lbs...
But, like I said, there are so many other reasons to buy this car.

Even if it has 550 hp and only comes in at 3500 lbs (which is about where a current RWD G35 coupe is, I think), it would still have a lot of ground to cover to approach a Carrera GT...
Re: 2008 Nissan Skyline
Even if the car has 500 hp, how the hell will it get near a 7 flat if the 610 hp and far lighter (based on the 3800-3900 lbs being quoted recently for the Skyline) Carrera GT is at 7:28? That car was more or less a race car converted into a road car...

Also, traversing a race course is much more than just a function of HP/Tq/curb weight...they are certainly an important part of but not the whole formula...I don't know if the GT-R can do it or not let alone how but the point is, no one else (save the development team) knows either and they aren't talking.
Ultimately, I doubt that it will matter what numbers the GT-R finally produces as many who post here routinely dismiss out of hand any data from any source if they don't like what the data implies!

Re: 2008 Nissan Skyline
People underestimated the R-34 in the same way they are underestimating the as yet non-existing version...derriding a car about which almost nothing is known at all is as pointless in this thread as it was in the similar threads started last week.
