When will the hp wars end? What's next? 600? 700? 800 horses in a street car?
You know, I'm really enjoying the HP boosts comming in the new cars. But you got to wonder when insurance companies and lawmakers will put their foot down and say enough. Honestly, how many 400+ Hp cars do we want on the roads with all the inexperienced ***** out there?

Cool

That simply can't be true... that's just crazy talk, we live in a civilized, calm society, and 500RWHP just doesn't fit into that mold...

/sigh...

I'm getting so close to throwing away my plans to buy a 2002
Camaro SS...

So do you think the 2006 Cobra will cost around 38,000 bucks? That's my best guess... they might charge more though since it will have more HP than a Corvette.

And Chevy loyalists, please no speaches on how "they can't be compared the corvette outhandles the Mustang."

Duh.

Exclamation

also in the thread, the person who said he knows about the prototype gave an estimated weight of 4100 lbs...ouch!! I wouldn't buy a sled that heavy even if it had 800 HP...Well, maybe i would

That would be a 400lb increase over the current Cobra. I don't see that happening. There was a rumor going around at one time that the 2005 GT Mustang would weight 3800lbs. It's barely over 3400lbs. I'd wouldn't take the 4100lbs estimate too seriously.

The 5.4 and blower package is far from light so a weight increase should be a given....but 4100lbs? i hope not. I'd say 3,800lbs max which is still too much, but somewhat acceptable if matched with 500horses and 500lb-ft of tq.

The 5.4L that it should be getting (from the GT) is aluminum, not iron like the current 4.6L in the Cobra and one of the reasons it's so heavy. The 5.4L aluminum block is actually lighter than the 4.6L iron block. I'm not sure about the weight difference between the other engine parts, but I seriously doubt it's more than 100 lbs.

Yup. That 4100lb figure is gross disinformation. Just like the 3800lb weight for the GT which turned out 3400. Call the new Cobra at 3700lbs.

Hmmm.

475rwhp/.85 = 558/3700 ^-1 = 6.62lbs/hp INSANE

to my knowledge, the new 4.6 is also all aluminum, so might weight gain still be a factor, just less of one?

The 2003/2004 Cobra has an iron 4.6L. You are correct, the 2005 Mustang GT has an aluminum block.
