All other info aside, 500hp is what I was expecting for the Cobra.

Found this part interesting. It's from the Whipple site. Could very well be a typo, but i hope it is a slip-up on their part. Guess we'll find out. I hope they ditch the roots.

That’s right, get the same supercharger that’s utilized on the new Ford GT and the 06’ Lighting and Mustang Cobra.
I think we'll see a prototype at the 2005 autoshow.

About time they think about ditching the 4.sick for the 5.4.

Unhappy

Unless it's aluminum, that 5.4 is a big, heavy motor.
Would anybody really want a 500hp Cobra if it weight 3,900lbs?
Not me.

It's not a roots. It's a twin screw Lysholm and they make power to the moon. Trust me you want one on the Lightning and Cobra. And it'll be there.

600rwhp on 93 octane in the 4.6 '03 Cobra is simple with the Kenne Bell or Whipple charger.

Wink

The 2006 Cobra will surprise the pants off most all of you.

I can almost guarantee you there won't be a "Chevy coupe" that will touch it (going by GM's history).

It's power is that outregous.

Trust me.

Rumor has it that a '06 Cobra mule has been spotted testing near Ford's Naples Florida facility.

Coincidentally....I'll be down there in a couple of weeks.

Anyone know where in Naples, the Ford facility is?

I remember about a year or so ago, a guy out of the Pacific Northwest that built a classic Vette streetcar with a twin screw Whipple on a BBC that put out over 1000hp. So I'm not surprised that they're able to get 500 horses out of a Whipple on the 5.4 Ford.

When will the hp wars end? What's next? 600? 700? 800 horses in a street car?

So, those rumors about 5.4L motors in Mustangs at a testing facility in Detroit may have been true all along...not that I had any doubts. If the 5.4L fits in the Cobra, who's to say a new Mach1 may not get one too?

No. The GT's 5.4 is set at about 75% potential. The Lightning and Cobra will be detuned from that. Although the Lightning is SO HEAVY it could possibly get an unaltered GT motor, ala the Ram SRT-10, an still pose no threat to Ford's $150K supercar. It's really a marketing game here.

Then there's the 3V VCT head thrown into the mix which could be a way to offer a different blown 5.4. I actually believe this will most likely show up in the Cobra and Lightning.

Glad you mentioned that. Speculation on the Ford sites is the Mach1/Boss goes 5.4 3V VCT solid axle ~380hp

I know that. That's why i said they should drop the current roots (on 03/04 Cobra), and go with the twin screw on the 06's.
