And the Chevy's seems to get at the high end of that real world test.

When has Chrysler ever got suprisingly good mileage??

LMAO. :blah:

Read Joe K 96 Zeee's post again: he quotes from Car and Driver too, apparently from a different test than you are quoting. He doesn't give ONLY the EPA ratings. He quotes the EPA city/hwy numbers, AND CandD's observed number during their tests. The numbers he quoted show a 3 mpg drop from the 5.7L 300c to the 6.1L 300 SRT8. Which is EXACTLY what one would expect from a heavier, far more powerful version of a car with larger displacement and a less fuel-mileage-friendly rear axle. What exactly are you trying to prove here?

Oh yeah, in usual fashion, you are shifting focus to avoid the fact that the new 6 speed auto in the Vette gives both more performance potential AND more economy potential, even with the 2.56 differential ratio that you can't seem to get your head around.

EDIT: And while the EPA rating may come from a "bogus test" (as you called it), for non-hybrids it can be reasonable, especially the highway numbers. Since the 300C and 300 SRT8 are similar cars, the test would still be useful for comparing relative performance. No way the SRT8 is going to make up for a 3 mpg city / 6 mpg hwy deficit in the "real world". Perhaps if my grandfather were driving the SRT8 and my younger brother were driving the 300C, it could happen. But the overall numbers are going to be lower for the SRT8. Just like they are lower for the CTS-V than for the regular CTS.

And, just for the hell of it, I'll say it again: the actual, working gear ratio (overall) between the wheels and the engine is what really matters, not just the axle ratio. Even the diameter of the tires matters.

In order to get back to the coolness of the new 6spd, and possible use in a future car that is near and dear to our hearts, I think that there should most deffinatly be this 6spd auto tap shift, but when in regular auto mode, should have the performance algorythm shifting that is found in a lot of GM vehicles.

That sounds like common sense to me
