Last i heard, the 18's were cancelled or put off for a year or so on the GT. Will we see it from the get-go?

255/18's are decent at best, but 275's would have been perfect . Are the 18 inchers 18x8 or 18x9?

From the looks of it, the rear end suspension looks a lot like how the third/4th gens were set up in the rear. LCA's. panhard/track bar. All thats missing is the torque arm.

anyway, I guess we will see. My only question about the Mustang is why doesnt Ford move up with the rest of the world, and offer a 6spd manual in the GT?

Yeah, nothing "official" yet, but I've heard the 18's might be available in spring. Definitely not from the get go. However, the aftermarket will be full of 18" rims which a lot of people will probably end up buying anyway if they want 18" wheels. Unfortunately I don't know what the rim width is Chances are you'll still be able to put something slightly wider than 255 on there even with 18x8's.

Hmmmph, the new M*stang's setup is alot like 3rd Gens and 3rd Gens do handle better than 4th Gens. But 3rd Gens are more harsh when it comes to ride quality. To be honest, I really don't care as neither can match an IROC-Z. (.92 g best!) I just can't see any M*stang outhandling any Camaro. I wonder if the 5th Gen will be able to go beyond that .92g F-Body high.

ANY?? It's been done. The 2000 Cobra R pulled 1.01g's. . Now I know you're going to argue that it wasn't a regular production car. However, the current Cobra skidpads a little above 0.9g's, pretty close to the IROC's 0.92. If the current Cobra skidpads at 0.9, then I would expect the next Cobra with it's new stiff chassis, wider track, and a desire to outdo the previous generation will pull at least 0.95, probably closer to 1.0g.

This post just might win the award for "Most Number of Rediculous Generalizations Ever."

Re: 2005 Mustang GT to handle better than 2002 Z28?

I have two thoughts:

What is 'curb weight'? My '94Z was weighed at a Pro-Solo event with 5/8 a tank of gas and came in at 3350. Is curb weight meaning all fluid tanks full?

Also, really what we're comparing is a 2005 chassis to a 1993 chassis, or 1998 if you want to split hairs about the slight suspension tweak in '98. My second biggest beef with the '05 'Stang is it still uses a glorifed pick-up's rear suspension.

Isn't it basically the same as the 3rd/4th gen setup??

It isn't that bad in that live axled cars can be made to handle as well. Some of the IRS systems have their own little flaws as well.

Like the current Sn95's, the Cobra's IRS unit should bolt right in, so there should be some flexibility as far as rear-end options for the hard-core track guys (albeit not from the showroom).
