2005 Corvette sales... how's it doing, really?
2005 Corvette sales... how's it doing, really?
After the initial rush of enthusiast orders.... how are sales?
Kerbeck has 10-15 C6's sitting on their lot ready to be bought...
Every local Chevy dealer I have gone to has at least 1 2005 Corvette in stock.
Compare this to the 97 and 98 Corvette, which I didn't see sitting on a dealer showroom ever, except the very first 97, which was put under the car covers for the "debut" at all the dealerships.
I'm wondering if the reception has been relatively cold to the styling... it certainly can't be the power.

I have YET to see even ONE on the road, and i live in a major metro area and drive 80 some miles a day in it. I've yet to see a 2005 Mustang on the road either, even though i drove by a truck full not too long ago.
I like the c6, and would think they'd be moving pretty darn fast, but i could be wrong.

I'm sure that has a bit to do with it... and possibly the rebate thing, though I don't knwo that rebates would come into play with a Corvette as much as a $30k car in decision making.
But, don;t forget, it doesn't snow in all of the country... and, again, I never remember seeing 1997 Corvettes... OR 1998 even sitting on dealer lots...
Perhaps production ramped up much quicker for the C6 vs the C5, since the C6 is quite similar to the C5... but I do not knwo the ramp up speed for 1997 production... and even with this, 1998 would have elimiated this issue.

I've seen 4 or so driving around in the Austin-metro area. One of the large Dodge dealers had a brand new yellow one sitting out front to draw attention, as if it was needed with all the Rumble Bees on the lot, Magnums, SRT 4s, and a Viper ... It did stand out though, that yellow is hot

Well, since C6 has been out, what? 2-3 months longer than Mustang... that isn't exactly a fair comparison, is it?
Me, personally, I have seen 1 new Mustang on the road, and 1 Corvette, but it was a pre-production one back before they were released... so it doesn't even really count.

Why, yes it is. The Mustang is a, what, 100-150k production car? And since they are so popular and eveyrone must have one, you would think that within the short time the Mustang was out, I would see more then the "slow selling" C6 Corvette that has a max production of maybe 40k units?
And I have only seen Corvettes on the road and in dealers for about a month now...2-3 months? Maybe near BG.
So yes.. it is fair to compare the "omg omg omg soo hot" Mustang to the Corvette.

They are building VINS in the 6000's now, I believe, so, even at full normal production, 6000 Corvettes would be 10 WEEKS of production. Now, add a few exra on for ramp up, and we are looking at 3 MONTHS that Corvette has been on the market.
Mustang, on the other hand, just started saleable production in the last month or so... and, while, yes, the Mustang will have a higher production total... keep in mind the Mustang is an all new car, where C6 is heavily based on the C5 and is being built on the same line in the same factory where Mustang is on a new line at a new factory.
So........ in other words, no, it is NOT a fair comparison... you are being biased.

Ive seen one on the road so far. I also went up to a dealership yesterday where a friend works and saw the first one they got in. I also got to test drive a 2004 SSR, cool car but what a dog in performance.

Point is that I have seen more low-production Corvettes then the oh-so-popular and orgasmic Mustang. Even after my campaign of "Go Buy a Mustang", I still dont see them in the numbers that I thought. In all honesty, I thought that I would be knee deep in Mustangs at every stop light within the first month. Ive seen 2 on lots, one V6 and I think one was a V8 (had a spoiler). The V6 had a 3k mark up on it...but that dealership is known to give it to you hard with no lube.

I think you are still missing the whole point that Mustang hasn't been in production long enough to "see them all over the place"... and since Corvette has been available over THREE TIMES as long... you SHOULD see more Corvettes.
Also, this post really wasn't intended to be a debate on whether Mustang will outsell Corvette or not... that is a pointless and useless arguement.
The more relavant question is: Why didn't I see any Corvette "stock" sitting on dealer lots in 1997 or 1998, but they are sitting on just about every Chevy lot today?
Re: 2005 Corvette sales... how's it doing, really?
Ok, well I agree that arguing which is going to sell better is worthless, the idea of the C6 sitting on every Chevy lot is not true.
I went to both my local Chevy dealers and they didnt have one. Two dealers, one of which I bought my Maxx from, had any.
I have only seen the Corvette at one dealership, and it was inside as a display model.
All 8 vettes I saw were on the road...and one was parked next to my car
