I'd buy the Chrysler SRT-8 and have enough money left over for a regular 300C.

granted, on paper, the SRT-8 at least seems to be a better value for the $$$, but for the $75k buyer that isn't interested in the STS, he or she is much more likely to buy a different car in the $75 range (Benz-Bimmer) then stepping down and 'saving' $35k....And yes, many people will buy the Caddy at just about any price, if it truly is a great car...At some point in time, people in the upper-class become wealthy to the point where they don't care about trying to make a 'deal' or get 'value' for their cars, and all they want is something that looks distinctive and exclusive...hell, I've known people who burned 80 grand on a new car just as a point of pride--just to say to others at parties that "My new car cost 80 grand"

Plus, this argument about the elitism in that price range hurts the Caddy a lot too. Your $80,000 benz/bmw customer isn't going to buy a Caddy, just because they perceive it to be a lower quality car, even if it isn't.
I predict the SRT-8 will be a homerun, and the STS-V will not. Let's see how time tells on this one.

To answer the question that the poll is asking, the precise question of "which I would prefer", of course I would prefer the STS-V.
Paying money is another issue, I don't think I'll ever spend big money on a car unless it happens to be a new Corvette.

I would (and plan to) buy an SRT-8, and get the extended warranty. If the quality/reliability is an issue, let them take care of it.
Although, I really do like the STS-V, it's just too much for me to afford.

Again, compare the SRT-8 to whatever STS model comes in at 40K. They are in the same size class, both rwd, both 4 doors, both v8s.

The differences between these two cars are much like the differences between a Camaro ZL1 and a Mustang GT. They're in two completely different classes as far as price, power, features and prestige go. But they have similar space....and ...well.... they're RWD? C'mon!

They're both equivalent in the tangible sense (other than cost). They're not equal in intangibles, such as bling factor. I pick the 300. I'm allergic to bling...I can't pay that kind of money for something thats just a car.

Power? The SRT-8 has 425 hp, and the STS-V has 440hp? 15 horsepower? That is not a "different class". Especially up at the range they're playing at.
Prestige? Caddy's prestige isn't exactly the highest anymore, especially for models like the Seville. I would say that a person who would buy a Caddy would easily cross shop with a Chrysler.
What makes these cars different classes, except for the fact that GM wants almost twice as much as theirs? Just because they charge more for it doesn't mean it's a "higher class" car.

Power...440? Thats it? Holy crap Is this an 'official' figure?
Prestige, its not a Cadillac/Chrysler thing I was getting at. It was an expensive car (while being well worth it) next to a less expensive car. Its like having an XLR next to a Corvette or something.
Like I said earlier, its on a more capable and expensive chassis. If it does come in at $70K+ then yes, it will be somewhat overpriced. But this comparison is still ludacris.

300C SRT8 hands down. No question. I wish the IRS gave luxury car tax exemptions rather than a 6000 lb GVWR execption. I would buy the SRT8 over the Durango Limited I ordered.
