Going to racing school, what should i take?
Going to racing school, what should i take?
i'm going to a driving school on dec 9. what tools should i take? they said they have mechanics on duty to do repairs and stuff, but is there anything i should bring besides extra fluids?
i've been to several driving schools, but none like this. i will be on a 1.7 mile road course and running it backwards.
thanks

Domestic.... Is this the Motorsport Ranch day?
Are ya'll learning in the Camaro Cop cars?
If so...several of us F-bodies guys are going to be there (6 to be exact). We were told that a couple of Police officers were going to be there in their f-bodies also.
We all have plenty of experience at MSR going counter-clockwise, but this will be our first experience going clockwise. It should be a very interesting day.
You will need extra fluids for you car and for your self. Bring plenty of water and bring food to eat in case there is no caterer that day.
I am sure they told you your helemet & clothing requirements , but just in case. SNell 95 + helmet and long pants and long sleeve cotton shirt.
BTW... We were hoping for a little photo/video op of the Police chasing us around the course with all light and sirens.
If you get a chance check out these videos of several of us at MSR.
Look forward to meeting you. James

there will be 2 of us and one car. i've been to several pursuit schools, but none like this so it's all new to me.
we have an in-car video so if you bring a VHS tape i'm sure we can record one of the runs for you. i don't see why they wouldn't let us do a few runs with at least the lights on. where else can you run from the police and it be perfectly legal?
do you know of any places to get a cheap helmet? we're probably going to use it that one time unless we get someone pursuit instructor certified soon.
looking forward to it.

As for a helmet.... The track does have some that they either rent or loan out. I am not sure about which it is. You could give them a call and ask.

I will be another of those "running" at MSR on the ninth
I would suggest a good set of front brake pads like Carbotech Panthers and good brake fluid like Motul 5.1. The stock GM pads will glaze and fade and the fluid will boil.
And here is a video shot from my old '98 Z28 at MSR:

I look forward to meeting you all, and will bring tape(s) for copies of your video

Now come on guys ... we don't want to make that "pursuit" Camaro too competitive ...
I've had a little bit of experience on that track ... but like James, only counter-clockwise ...
I'd bring a truss ... you'll need it for Big Bend, Tombstone and Ricochet!
What kind of tires are you guys running?

Don't worry about tools ... I'll have plenty. Just don't steal them, OK?

As far as mechanics, I'll have my personal mechanic there, at your disposal. Glenn is a wiz on LS1s.
Be prepared to run through some fuel. It's nothing to use 3/8 of a tank in a single session.
I've only seen the back seat of a police car up close, so I don't know what kind of stuff you will have up front. Need to clean out anything that isn't bolted down ...
Oh ... and we talk smack!

that's what we're bringing.
the only mods aside from police equipment are the rollbar and sub-frame connectors. it handles pretty good. oh, and there is no back seat in this one; not even a passenger seat.
we have Goodyear Eagle RSA 245/50ZR 16s. those are the only tires we're allowed to use on the street because they're certified by NIST for police pursuit use. i'm trying to talk them into getting some kumhos to burn up at the track.
i don't know about the other guy i'll be with, but i'm going to tape all my runs. i can make copies if any of you guys want one.
i appreciate the welcoming and gratitude you guys are already giving me. better now than after i show you peeps up.

looking forward to it.

I mean, out of sheer brand loyalty, it needs to be faster than a Mustang ... or one of those pesky 911s ...
Just remember ... when you see something white in the rearview, pull it over, son ...
Did someone say we talk smack? Nahhhh.. It can't be true.
'Cause I was thinking.... this video might not be that good when all you can see is F-body taillights getting smaller in the distance.
Mitch... my tire stock pile has just about dwendled away. Just a couple left then on to 17"s and C5 brakes.

if by accident, i happen to do a burnout, and one of you guys happens to take a picture of it, i wouldn't mind if i accidentally got a copy.
i think you guys are underestimating my skills. let us not forget that i've caught a 98 Z28 with a granny crown vic.
this is all of you after i've made a few laps.....
ME
does that qualify as smack talk?
now i'm getting anxious. and i don't even have one of them there fancy SCCA licenses.

You's got an automatic DV, and you think you can hang with this darn bunch LOL
Of course, this is what you will probably be doing 2 weeks and a day prior to christmas
I will be shooting in-car video, and will share.
And you are in good company as none of us have an SCCA license.

DV is a fully qualified smack talker ...
Ran down a regular ole z28, huh?
(probably a V6 with bootleg badges)
Chuck, how many M3s, M5s, 911s and the occasional ZO6 & Viper have we made cry? I can't count'em on my fingers and toes ...
DV ... prepare to meet yer maker!

no, it was none other than an LS1; and a complete stripper model at that.
it's not the car, it's the driver. i guess i'll just have to schedule a duel with each of you.
