Yeah, the NT01's would probably "get me by" ..... until I can afford another set of rims (~17's?) for track duty .

And in terms of "ideal" track-only wheels, would you guys agree that something like a 17 x 9.5 on all 4 corners would probably be best?? (just asking for down the road). Would there be any advantage / disadvantage to running the Z06 setup (with 18 x 10.5's in back) ??

Hoosier's and Kumho V710s, have no way to move water, and would be problematic in standing water conditions, but faster all other times. A shaved RA1 would be faster than a street tire at all times unless the standing water was deep where 4/32" for tread can't pump it away.

Slicks, don't run 'em. Expensive, not really anything for the wheels size that fits right. And just because something might fit, realize that those tires are often for much lighter cars and not means to carry 1100+ per corner like the front of these cars can weigh.

Besides in DOT R's are damn near becoming as fast as slicks.
All true....I was speaking in terms of using DOT R's on the street (which I would NOT recommend in the rain) not on the track......

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I own a 1994 road race Camaro. You guys must have brought up the 17x11/315s on all corners before, but I couldn't find anything else on it. CCW tells me that this is the hot auto-X set-up, he also tells me that they stick out on the front, but they work. Does anyone know if I have to spring my car like crazy to keep from rubbing, or do they tuck in from the camber before they hit the fender? Please let me know if I'm missing a thread about this. I'd love to see some before I buy.

Thanks,
Kyle

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I ordered 17x11 from CCW with 50mm offset, and my front springs are 800 lb/in so it shouldn't rub.

From what I've heard, the BFG KD is the closest you'll get to a racing tire that actually has decent treadwear. I would also recommend different tires for different things, but if you had to choose just one, I'd go with a BFG KD.

50mm offset will require spacers..... FWIW

Yoko AO32R's were loud and noisy and lasted 2K miles...OK in the rain for sure thought at full depth..

Kuhmo V700's are scary in the rain and I only have them on the fronts..haha They are lasting longer and are really quiet though. I love driving on them and reccomend them but you really have to know that they can't go on a highway in the rain. I run Nitto Drag 315's out back which are sticky enough for auto-X duty and great on the street. Rain's no problem until the last 25% is left, then be careful. They are cheap and last a good 5-10K WITH racing. Goodluck!

I think that's the direction I'm probably going to take. And something else that I've read before, and discussed with people (friends and fellow club members, etc.) is that being a "rookie", I should probably take my time learning the car, the track, etc. If I just jump out immediately in a "race prepped" car, the car will be much more "capable" than I am as a driver, so I could actually get myself into more trouble? (and I've had a couple spins, which of course I've "blamed" the tires for, but obviously poor planning/judgement led me into the situation in the first place ).

I think I'll probably be "safest" on a good street tire (but I do need something better than those Hankooks I've been running!! ).

My current favorite summer tires.....

-BF Goodrich KD.....although they are EXPENSIVE.
-Kumho MXs.....cheap and seem to work quite well, a lot of auot-x guys around here use them.
-Falken RT-615.....this one is supposed to be better than the 215, and is priced in the middle of the other two.
