WHy are appearence mods a no-no for fbodies?
Re: WHy are appearence mods a no-no for fbodies?
i don't give a **** what some one does to their car. seriously, its about me and how i feel it should be. but on the other hand, if you are one of those @$$holes who drives around a V-6 green camaro with alteza taillights and spinner hubcaps who feel it would be a good idea to do a burn-out at my local meeting spot so as the cops will not let us hang anymore, you my friend are the reason camaro enthusiests don't like that look. i remember back in highschool when i got my first z, i used to be able to go down to the Hobby Lobby parking lot on friday nights and meet up with some fellow "racing" enthusiests: as had many racers for many years. then a fad comes along and every 16 year-old in my town wanted to take their v-6 camaro and go do burn outs untill the cops said "no more." now we can't kick it there anymore.... now i know it is silly to believe that everyone who drives an "all show no go" camaro is like this, but i can't help taking my frustration out on everyone i see that fits this description.
i mean honestly, the reason me, and the other friends i have who own camaro's and mustang's got them is for one reason- to go fast affordably. all the kids i know who wanted to do apperance mod's went with other style cars, ones that had plenty of apperance options because speed wasn't an issue. thats just how it was in my experience...
now i know what its like to be poor and not have the money to upgrade your car the way you want, but that is no excuse to go out and spend all your extra money on some cheesey stuff you find at the local wally world. just save it, eventually it will add up... then you can do the stuff you really want to.
i believe in being unique and different, but we all know the difference between different and tacky. and i will give props to anyone who takes the time and effort to make something new for any car. just keep it in reason. most of us bought the camaro because we liked the way it looked compared to other v-8 cars of the time. i.e.-mustang. so changing it up is fine by me. just know that it is a car with a storey and a history, and thats what people see... the heritage. and i believe that is why most people on here do not encourage the change of the look of a part of american history.
now with that said, there is only one more thing. all i have to do is look at the website at the top of my window to know why i feel the way i do. i come to camaroz28.com because i love the car, and it feels good to have this many other people out there that feel like i do. so people, lets just be happy that each and every one of us took the time to register here because we care about thease cars enough to be here. and i say, let the next man do what he wants, cause after all, how does it change the way you feel ultimatly?
i mean, everything great about thease cars, came from someones idea first...

Re: WHy are appearence mods a no-no for fbodies?
Well, personally, every time I see altezzas and a huge-*** wing on a Camaro or Firebird, I cringe. I don't think those things should be done to these cars, but that's just my opinion. Of course others will think this looks nice and more power to them. I just would never do that to mine.
I bought my '94 Z about a month ago, and I don't have the money right now to do any work on the engine. I've been looking at some subtle things for appearance (rear vinyl inserts, chrome Z28 emblems, smoked taillight covers, stuff like that) because I think they spruce up things just a little bit and they're inexpensive. I'm not looking to put huge rims, a body kit, and a crazy hood and spoiler on mine, 1. because I don't think that kind of thing looks good on an F-body; and 2. because I don't have the money for those major things anyway.
But, like Brent said, sometimes a "crazy" spoiler and/or hood looks good on some F-bodies. It depends on the overall look of the car and other things the person has done to it.
Personally I don't like the "ricer" look on F-bodies, but if you want to do it, go right ahead. I'll be laughing at you as I pass you, but......
