Post Whats the Advantage?

I have a 1995 z28 automatic and it does not have first gear and I read somewhere that it has 2:73 gears, what advantages or disadvantages do I have?

Doesn't have first gear?
That one is new to me...anyhoo, on to the subject at hand...if you do have a 2.73 gear, then your advantage is on the interstate and getting good gas mileage. The disadvantage is take off. BTW, this topic doesn't really belong here. That's probably why you haven't gotten many replies...try the LT1 tech next time.

I think he means he has the 2.73 gears rather than the 3.23 "performance" package, and as a result is not able to "select" 1st gear.

This type of question belongs on "LT1 Tech", not on "Appearance". You will get a quicker answer there, including a link to the procedure for allowing 1st gear selection.

Yeah the 1st gear mod is the best free mod I ever did, along with the short A4 shifter mod.

All 2.73 carsconsoles start off on 2 oposed to the 1 that the 3 series gear cars have. 2.73s are great high way gears, how ever you can easily get the selectable first gear, just pop the top off your console and you will see at the bottom of the gear slector, like a rubber block, just do away with that and your car will be able to go in to first gear. Some one made a tech article with pictures about it.

why would you want to have first gear selectable, don't you just leave it in drive the whole time?

Most people will tell you to just leave it in D. The car will shift better than you can and you'll get better times.
