I doubt that it would help anything at all except give me some more scratches, but how about rubbing compound? Would that help my scratch issue at all?

I have been pretty busy getting stuff ready for college this year, so I haven't been able to work on this too much recently. I did polish the door where I took the piece off of. For the most part it looks great. I just have a small problem that I don't know how to fix now...

This glue that the previous owner used to stick the piece back to the door is proving to be pretty difficult to get off. You can also see what I meant by the previous owners scratched it up a bit.
What would you recommend I do in order to get this stuff off? I already tried goo gone and I also tried polishing it. Neither of these seemed to do much good. Could somebody give me any ideas?

Get a hair dryer and warm it up some when you're trying to pull it off.
