The black on the metal wiper blade was peeling and fading. I then attempted to take off the blade assy but found out it had to be cut off so I did just that. When I went to replace with a standard hanger blade kit (not just rubber, but metal hangers that the rubber slides through as well) I noticed that this blade would not snap on because '97 Z28 appears upsidedown compared to other cars (opening is on the bottom of the U, not on the top). Did I commit a major no-no by cutting them off because now the whole wiper arm has to be replaced?

Wiper Arm GM part # 22155458 LH, 22155459 RH This is the the arm w/air deflector..

If you are talking just about the "blade assembly", you can pick one up at a local parts store.... Anco part # 24-59R

 

I realize what you mean as "arm" includes the "U" loop the hanger slips into and locks. But, when you say blade assy do you mean just the rubber piece or the hanger that it slips through as well?
