rolling fender?

i dont know what else to call it. i dont want to roll the lip of the fender to make the wheel well any bigger i just want to hammer the lip flush on the inside but i am unsure how to go about doing this. i was think of cut the inside of the lip about every 2-3 inches and hammering the inside flush agaisnt the inside of the fender. anyone have any comments on wether this will work or not or have any other ideas.

There's a tool called "The Jimmy" that is made for turning the inner edge of the fender up at about 45degrees. Then you can hammer is lightly to flatten it as much as you want.

Problem is, when you bend the metal, the paint cracks. With The Jimmy, they recommend cutting into the paint with a razor blade just inside the outside edge of the fender.... then when the paint cracks, you get a straight line, and no ragged edge of cracks extending out into the finished part of the fender. But you still need to touch things up on the fender lip, because pieces of paint are going to flake off.

Like many other people, I heard of taking a baseball bat and wedging it between the tire and the fender lip and using it as a lever to roll the lip upwards as you pivot the bat around the tire, but I never actually saw anyone do it.

Find one of these (local if you can)
www.fenderroller.com

Use a heat gun to keep the paint hot, and it won't crack. I used this on my TA to fold the rear lip up and flush against the inside of the fender... I was able to rent one from the local Audi club for like $40...

good luck,
Shane

Apparently, Audi guys use them a lot, so try to find your local club and see what they have to say.

The heat gun I used came with the fenderroller rental, but seemed to be a plain-old hobbyshop quality heat gun. Worked great though - no paint cracks at all...
good luck,
Shane
