Hey iamsparc, I just finished my conversion last week. I have the LS1 airbox with SLP lid from my 02SS on it, works fine, it only needs a few things done for it to fit. It made a HUUUUGE sotp improvement over the POS suncoast airbox. I already had the throttlebody to MAF hose from an LT1 vette from the ramair box, but you'll need that. Make sure you get one for the vette and not the RamAir TA's, its the exact same part and last time I checked they charged $40 more for the TA hose. Do some grinding on the bottom of the airbox and boom, it fits. You have to tap 2 more holes in the radiator support to get all 4 bolts down, but thats cake. You'll have to splice and lengthen the IAT sensor wires so it reaches the opposite side of the airbox. I'll post pics in a few minutes.

You can do the swap pretty cheap if your patient. I spent $450 on my whole swap, and actually got all the parts in red so I didn't have to paint. But I waited 6 months to get all the parts together. Find people that remove bumper supports for weight loss, someone that just put on a ram air hood. Hit local junkyards, parts always show up. The hardets part was definately aligning everything. All I have left to do is weld on the longer LS1 Hoodstop Brakets, the LT1 brakets are almost 2 inches shorter. It was extremely difficult to find them. I ended up buying an entire radiator support from an LS1, I wish I had welded in the whole thing in hindsight. Good luck with your swap, if you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Well...my car got vandalized...so insurance is paying for my front end swap. I HAD a near mint 96 Z28 M6 Convertible. There were some stupid neihborhood kids out terrorizing the neihborhood...someone got the bright idea to attack my Z with an axe. Yes...AN AXE!!! The car alarm went off before they ripped into the top or broke the windows...BUT...they tore up virtually every panel on the car. The doors are ok and one rear quarter is ok. The rest of the car is trashed.

I found a new GM SS hood for 700 bucks, and front OEM fenders for 90 each on ebay. On www.autobodyparts.com I found the front nose for like $135. It's aftermarket, so we'll see how well that does. The SS spoiler I found on ebay and the headlights and fogs from ebay and a neihbor down the street is going to do the body work and paint in his shop as long as I plug him when I go to the shows. With the parts I have so far, I'm still coming out @ half of what the insurance gave me for parts...So...I'll actually come out on top here...I'll probably go ahead with a Borla exhaust w/e-cutout now...and finish my stereo install off with a pair of JL audio amps.

Even though I'll be coming out on top of this though...I'm ready for those darned punks if they even so much as LOOK at my car again!!!!!

Thumbs up PUNKS CAUGHT

just thought I'd let everyone know...I'm pretty sure that the same punks that screwed up my car were the same little punks that have been doing other vandalism in the neighborhood...ANYWAYS...they got caught this week after being chased down by a neighbor when they drove into his yard with their car tearing up his lawn. My neighbor chased them to their house and called the police. It's doubtful if they'll ever confess to any of the other stuff they did since we didn't catch them in the act, but they're at least in SOME trouble, and under the watchful eye of the local "po-po's". At least this way...they'll hopefully think twice before doing ANYTHING else, and if they do prove that they are of a lower level of the genepool...then hopefully the police will be watching them.

(at least I KNOW who they are now)

You should meet up with them and tell them if they screw with your car again, their mothers will find them buried at a construction site. Then when they return to vandalize your already messed up car, get it on video and sue the fug out of the parents.

Thumbs up THANKS Madkilla!

Thanks for the top on that vette hose, Madkilla. I just got the part in and you are most definitely right. IT DOES WORK!!! For anyone else that would like to know where to get this easily, just go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and get the duct asm- for the 96 vette. It's a 30 dollar part plus 6-8 bucks for shipping.

No Problemo, did you happen to check the price on the Ram Air TA hose? $65, and it is absolutely identical. What a joke. I have pics of all the parts I had to grind to get the LS1 airbox to fit, for some reason my digital camera won't download to my computer. My conversion is complete finally, I had to add spacers to the front nose support and headlight bracket to get everything to line up perfectly. Unfortunately I couldn't find a red drivers side fender, so I have one black primered one for the moment. I also have a stock hood, which aggrevates the hell out of me because I used to have the first Suncoast Z style hood. So I am waiting on an Ultra Z, but I think I am going to make a red carbon fiber/kevlar cowl hood with Whistler to shave weight. I yanked my AC and have a tubular K frame and A arms, so I might as well go all out on the weight loss. I'll post pics as soon as I can get them out of the damn camera. Just remember to extend your IAT sensor, and get a cheap APC filter breather for the airpump hose from discount auto, or just yank it out completely. Good luck.

Thumbs up

It IS going to practically be a new car. I'm going to have the entire car re-painted...it's getting a new sound system, new air induction setup, and some Y2k vette rims. THEN, to add to that, the GM SS hood, and I'm going to do a similiar custom setup of the Callaway gills in the side. I'm in the process of doing a test panel for those gills this weekend. You can get an idea of what the gills should look like on http://www.callawaycars.com/Camaro/camaro_body.htm
There's also a whole thread dedicated to just that here in this forum.

It's gonna be SWEET!

How hard is it to get the nose of our cars? I'd like to take the nose off my car and have it repainted but wasn't sure how difficult it would be to do. Any idea? Thanks

Talking

It's like 4 bolts and a few clips or something. It's not hard at all. Just start unbolting stuff and it'll eventually fall off. Just don't forget where all the bolts go once you decide you want to put the nose back on!

Question

I plan on tackling the conversion myself this summer. Does the part circled in the pick bolt on?

Front Bracket

Yes it does. The only thing you have to tap holes for is the lower headlight bracket, and the upper brakets have the place to be bolted but need to be threaded. The main wire harness is right behind the passenger side where you need to tap the hole, so I emphasize NOT to accidentally drill through it.
