Talking LS1 front end conversion finished!!UPDATED PICS of new paintjob inside

Well I finally got my car back from the paint shop, and to say the least, it looks amazing! I couldnt be happier with the way it came out. It looks like an LS1 that came from the factory, because you would never be able to tell the difference(aside from the taillights, but I like the older all red style). For those interested, everything lined up perfectly and I had no complications what so ever putting everything together. It was a simple remove and replace kind of project and pretty much everything went on the same way it came off. Im very proud of this mod, as it is by far the best thing Ive done to my camaro so far...even though my z28 is 9 years old, its been revamped and really makes me feel like Im driving a new car. Thanks to all that helped me along the way! Anyways, let me know what you all think.

I just did upgrade my rims! I went from the old salad shooters to some chrome 5 star rims off a 99 camaro...they are in the pics. I think they look pretty slick.

Looks good, but I would throw some chrome ZR-1's on there, that IMO would set the car off.

Thanks, Im very satisfied with the way it came out. I was kinda scared that I wasnt going to be able to do it after spending so much on the parts...but everything worked out. And I have no regrets.

Yea, orignally that is exactly what I wanted. A chrome set of ZR-1's, but I spent so much money on my car after it was wrecked that I couldnt afford it. I was actually going to keep the salad shooters, but while I was at the junkyard looking for parts I came across these rims w/ new tires and got them for $200+my old rims... my old tires were bald and cracking so I couldnt pass up this deal. But if you'd like, I'll trade you for your Z06 rims Maybe next year I'll upgrade the rims... but Im happy with these for now.

Thanks for the compliment. The spoiler is a Wings West SS spoiler, and I got it from www.newwayautosports.com ... I talked to the guy that runs the place, Armen... and he set me up at $258 shipped to my door. After a lot of looking that was by far the best deal I found. It took a little fabrication on the drivers side portion of the spoiler to get it to sit correctly, but it was no big deal.

Your car looks great. I have a wrecked 93 camaro I just got that I'm also swapping to the 98-up front end. Do you use your original core support? If so did everything bolt up? For some reason they list seperate part numbers for a 93-97 core support and a 98-02 core support. I've been looking at both style cars and the radiator supports look identical.

first off, thanks.. secondly.. I didnt swap my core support... Your talking about the bar up front that runs from fender to fender right? Because I didnt replace it. The only thing I needed was the hood, fenders, front bumper cover, impact absorber, headlights/foglights, and this piece

I dont know what its called, but it is circled in the pic...

and to answer your other question.. YES! everything bolts up perfectly. There is no fabrication required whatsoever. At least not in my case.

Thumbs up New fenders?

Definitely like the way it all looks. I'm planning on doing about the same thing. I have 2 questions though. First, did it require new fenders for the swap, or was that because the old fenders were damaged? The reason I ask is because both style fenders look VERY much the same to me in the ordering site that I've been to. Secondly, is your new hood functional(ramair)? If so, was there anything in the way of that functionality with the pre-98 insided verses the post-98 hood? (does everything line up as it should for the airbox and all?)
Looks REALLY nice. I hope mine goes as smoothly as yours appeared to.

Well, dont base the pricing too much on sy experience because I didnt take the time to shop around for parts.. I wanted to get my car done as quickly as possible and I wanted all original GM parts so I just bought the front end from www.speedautomotive.com for $1400, and that includes shipping. They provided the fenders, bumper cover, impact absorber, headlights/foglights and all the necessary brackets. I bought the hood from a board member and it is also an original GM SS hood, it ran me $700(still in the GM box, never installed or painted). I did the removal and installation of the front end myself. It was a very easy project(aligning everything is the most frustrating thing)...the paint cost me $480. So in total the front end cost me $2580... Im sure you can find parts at a better price if you look around, but I didnt have time to do so. Also if you feel cofident enough to purchase aftermarket parts you can do it for way cheaper... but I dont know if the quality and fit are satisfactory on aftermarket parts.

Thanks... to answer your first question, yes the fenders needed to be swaped for new fenders because the 93-97 ones dont have the correct curve for the new headlight/foglight setup... secondly, the new hood is an original GM SS hood, so the hood is functional, but I dont have the airbox for it. I still use my K&N cold air induction which is just as good if not better. Im not sure if you can fit a new SS airbox on my LT1, but maybe the airbox for the Ultra Z hood would work, but dont quote me on that. As far as I can see though, there shouldnt be any reason that the airbox wouldnt fit. I'll have to do some more research on that before I have a definate answer. And good luck with your front end conversion!

Swapping the airbox

I'm in the process of doing the front end swap. I'm going to tackle the airbox conversion as I too have a new 2000 GM SS hood. The only thing I can see that might be a little tricky is the fitment of the tubing. On the LT1's, the intake is an oval shape whereas on the LS1's it's round. I'll have to customize a VERY short transition from the roundness of the MAS to the oval of the intake. I haven't looked yet, but I'm pretty sure I can just hack a section out of the old air tubing. Seems straightforward enough. Anyways...wish me luck. I'll be taking pictures as I go along...hopefully.
