LED idea

First off, I am too chicken**** to try this yet; but, I was thinking someone could take the "Z28" emblem off the side of the car and put LED's in the "Z" and connect to the blinker so that it would illuminate when the blinker came on. Seen this on some BMW's and thought it looked pretty cool.

That's a little much IMO. Kind of cheap and untasteful. The BMW's and Mercedes have acutal side marker lights, not LED illuminated emblems.

Get ready for some "rice" comments.

Or, if you are kidding...
Yea dewd! Somebody try it, that would look tite!

I could do that, although it wouldn't be "easy", but it could be done, but not by your average place/person.

I think if it were done the way I could do it at work (I build custom LED light fixtures for airplanes at work) it would turn out decent. It's probably end up being a silver & white emblem though. I could do it outta clear instead of white too, but you'd see the LEDs in the clear, although if you wanted it like that it wouldn't be any more or less work.

The LEDs I'd use are tiny SMT Nichia's. Basically they are .100 long x .050 wide x .050 tall, I'm using them now and they work great in our applications.

Not to mention It would require a hole to be drilled into your door to run the wires though.

97FormulaWS-6 - so in comparison to a 3mm, that's what, about half the size? That does sound pretty nice.

They are SMT (Surface-Mount) LEDs. They don't have the typical leads like a 3mm or 5mm LEDs do, just 2 small metal pads that solder to a PCB, or a wire if you're damn good.

A 3mm LED is .118 in diameter, these are .1" long, .05 wide, and .05 thick. so, that's about 1/2 the size.

These in reality do require a PCB, they could have wires soldered to them, but it'll require a professional Solder Station with an extremely fine tip.

We're using ones from www.nichia.com for some of our products; including the ones I'm talking about.
