a/c not blowing cold

Hi all. My system was checked for leaks (none) and I tried recharging it. The compressor works fine, the gauge is showing a good level of refrigerant, but it's still blowing hot. Any ideas or insight is appreciated.

Re: a/c not blowing cold

There is a damper in your HVAC system that moves between hot and cold. It may not be moving (stuck on hot). I can usually hear mine but its a 94. Can you hear it moving when you turn the temp from hot to cold?

edit: I am making the assumption that the compressor is running of course based on the fact you said compressor is ok.

The compressor does work, and I can hear the flap when I turn it to cold.

Ok lets back up just a bit. I think assumptions are being made. When you say level is ok on the gauge, are you using the gauge that comes with a grenade kit or a full set of gauges that measure the high and low side? If not the latter, you cannot know if the compressor is good.

Re: a/c not blowing cold

I'm using the one with the kit, but my mechanic did test the compressor last week and everything checked out. I was told it was just low on refrigerant. I only added until the point where it was showing it was in the green- I heard tons of horror stories about overcharged systems- but it seemed to get there awfully fast.

Re: a/c not blowing cold

Got me at a loss. Your mechanic checked for leaks on a system that was low on refrigerant. How do you assure someone there is no leak if it doesn't have enough refrigerant to begin with. Why did he send you on your way without adding the required refrigerant. Lastly how does a mechanic verify operational status on a compressor in a system low on refrigerant. I'm no ac expert by ANY means. But.....hmm......I'll just say this. Got me man. Good luck.

Re: a/c not blowing cold

Well here is one for the books.I'm driving down the freeway the other day and it's 90 plus outside so I turn on the air and all I get is hot air.One minute, two minutes,3 minutes=hot air.So i figure it's time to get it checked out someday. So yesterday I just left the house engine warming up,sitting at a light and I decided to try the air again. Now it's ice cold at idle.Drive for a few minutes and still cold. It's about 75-80 outside.I think the clutches in the compressor are going south, which is a good thing because i can't wait to remove it and install an air conditioner delete pulley.Well, there it is.My02.Hope this helps.

Re: a/c not blowing cold

Check ac compresor. Happened to me and the same day compresor got locked and stuck my engine. It was blowing smoke just took Clutch out and order the New ac... Still waiting for a mechanic to Work with it. It haves oil inside and I dont want to drop it. If you change ac compresor. Ill recommend cleaning lines and New Dryer..
