Post installing vette wheels...

I installed a set of 1999 Corvette wheels and am experiencing rubbing on the inside of the rear fenderwells. Has anyone else installed this wide of a wheel on their Z? The rears are 18x11.5, and are quite nice looking. I did buy some 7/16" wheels spacers which would work great, but my studs are too short. DO i just get longer studs, or is there another way? Thanks!!

The rear's should actually be 18x10.5, not 11.5. Look at this post here:

There were no 18x11.5 C5 wheels to my knowledge. I have an interesting table of all the Corvette wheels sizes, offsets, etc. from either Vette or Corvette Fever from a few months ago, and they only list 18x10.5's as the max.

How are you measuring the wheel width? The rim width is specified by the width between the bead flanges, and is not the overall width of the wheel. For example, a 17x11 ZR1 wheel measures almost 12" wide if you include the flanges.

What the table also shows is that the C5 wheels have a greater "offset" than the wheels typically used on 4th Gen F-Bodys, and the rubbing on the inside of the wheel well is predictable, since the backspace of the Z06 18x10.5 is greater than a Grand Sport 17x11, which in itself will put the tire into the inner fenders on some 4th Gens (but not all, for some reason).

You also might want to check the centering of the body over the rear axle.... if it was "off" from the factory, you can correct it with an adjustable panhard rod.

you could also get a hammer and pound the spots where it's rubbing and then hit it with some rubberized undercoating.

I have the 18x9.5s on the back. There weren't any 18x10.5s in 99 that I know of. You have to hit the inner fenderwell where it buldges for the rear seat, maybe bend the ear by the LCA a little(very little) and you should be good to go. Now that its been rubbing for a while you can see exactly where to hit. I just guessed at mine and it was good enough.

Cool

Thanks for all the help guys!! I did get some 7/16" spacers, just to move the wheels out in line with the fender, but my lugs are too short...anyone know where to get longer lugs and how hard they are to change????
