OK, yea, back on topic here.... most likely you're looking at a complete paint job with pits and such, by the time you prep the "pitted" areas it's just worth while to paint the entire car...

My Brother is a body-guy (20+ years of experience), and my Fiance is a Collision shop manager, and I've been working on cars for over 15 years.. so... those are my credentials...

I'd say if you're looking for them to do all the work without a color change, complete back-to-factory, and maybe a little better paint-job you're talking $2500-$5K. That's including all the R&I, D/Aing and preping the entire car, and spraying it. That is variable depending on the shop, and how bad the pitting/chips are and if/how much actual body-work you need. It's hard to give a really good estimate without looking over the car. Most places will not STRIP the car completely, they will D/A everything down as far as they need to to remove the pits/chips, and smooth everything out.

That $7K+ paintjob is TONS of R&I, not to mention prep time with the bead-blasting. I've done cars that way, and I've spent probably 100+ hours preping a car for paint after Bead-Blasting/Acid dipping the car. That's not including tear-down or re-building the car before/after the actual spraying either.

You can save some $$, and quite a bit if you R&I as much as you can. Ask shops when you get quotes if they'll let you R&I (Remove and install) as much as you can. Most shops will, this will lessen the mechanical time on your car, my GF's shop rate is $45/hr for that.... But only R&I yourself if you're skilled enough to do it.

The Paint... well, most shops use good paints to begin with, and you should be able to get a really good paint job with most decent places. My brother uses Sikkens, PPG, and HOC paints, and all give about the same finish if they're done correctly.

I'm trying to get the $$ to get my car re-painted this summer by my brother, so I'm only paying for supplies, and I'm looking at the $2K mark for just Paint and supplies. This is without a color change, but the addition of Pearl to the entire car (except under the hood).

If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask, and if I don't know it I can find it out.
