Door Cracks

My '02 Formula has a crack in the right door panel along the top of the panel just under the window. Doing some internet browsing for a replacement panel shows me that this is a common problem for '97-02 Fbody door panel. As I have had no luck finding a replacement I was wondering if anyone has had any luck covering the plastic portion of the door panel with a vinyl wrap. Any suggestions or source for a replacement would be appreciated.

Re: Door Cracks

I just saw an article on repairing the door panel, without covering anything:

How to fix your already cracked door panels

Not a totally invisible repair, but looks decent.

Re: Door Cracks

Has anyone ever tried adding some type of filler and then match the texture of the door panel?

Look into 6litereater, he might have made a replacement piece for this. Check out his site.....6litereater.com I think it is.

If you follow the procedure I linked, you will have a reinforced panel, and the "crack" may be virtually invisible, as the gray panel in the article. If you just fill the crack, without correcting the rub strip and pulling the sides of the crack together, it will just keep opening up.

If the crack seems too visible, as in the later black panel in the article, any sort of filler could be pressed in, and touched up. SEM makes some fairly good matching vinyl paint (Eastwood sells them under the Eastwood name as well), and whatever you fill it with could be painted with a very tiny brush.
