Perry, I've seen it done before...it will bulge a bit but not much..there was a T/A in the GMHTP mag that had 315's on a 9.5 rim...no big deal....you'll be fine..are you gonna have E/T's on your car when you drag? BTW...go with a softer tire so it will be easier to mount...Houman can mount them for you at his uncle's shop...pm him for info...take care buddy...Mike

As the wheel diameter goes up, and the sidewall aspect ratio goes down, fitting the correct tire to the correct rim width becomes more critical. While a 315/35-17 requires an 10.5-12.5" wide rim, a 315/30-18 has tighter limits at 10.5-11.5" (Michelin) or 11.0-12.0 (Pirelli). There just isn't as much sidewall to "bulge"... it will be stressed.

Putting a 315/35-17 on a 9.5" rim looks bad, IMHO, gives a poor contact patch due to scrunching the tire on too narrow a rim, and reduces tire life with excessive flexing and temperature buildup. Put a 315/30-18 on a 9.5" rim, and you are asking for trouble.

Go to Tire Rack, look up the specific tire manufacturer, size and tire model you plan to use, and look for the manufacturer's recommended wheel widths. I'd suggest you follow those recommendations, within maybe a 1/2" tolerance.... but that just my opinion...... .
