Which would you prefer in an Engine & Why...Look inside please...

Would you rather have a 6 speed car with 430 rwhp & 405 rwtq
OR
Would you rather have a 6 speed car with 405 rwhp & 430 rwtq
AND
Why?

I'm curious as to peoples ideas and stands on this topic...

I've read the Torque vs. Horsepower threads on this board but I'm still up in the air...

Thanks to all for the thoughts and education...

Not enough info, would need actual dyno graphs (ie the torque and hp curves) to figure it out.

Ok...

Here are break downs of the 2 cars in question...Dyno Graph Comparisons...

Car A: 405 rwhp & 430 rwtq

RPM HP TQ
4500 370 425
5000 390 415
5500 400 380
6000 404 355
6500 385 320

Car B: 430 rwhp & 405 rwtq

RPM HP TQ
4500 345 400
5000 380 400
5500 400 380
6000 425 370
6500 425 350

Car A has the advantage in HP & TQ from 4500 to 5000 RPMS...
Both Cars are virtually identical in HP & TQ @ 5500 RPMS...
Car B has the advantage in HP & TQ from 6000 to 6500 RPMS...

Thanks,
TDOG

Id rather have the more torque, with my logic being i only touch 6500 RPMs for a second, but i am in the lower RPM range alot more.

Depends on the use of the car...DD or Drag car only?? DD I'd go for more torque as that's what you use daily. If it were a drag car I'd go for HP as The TQ gets you going but you can launch harder without spinning and then use the HP to carry you to the line....

For racing, an engine that carries the best average Horsepower in the RPM range that it's geared to will be faster.

If the shift RPM windows were the same (5000-6500 RPM), car B would have the
advantage because there is more average power available.

A for a street machine. B will be a little faster on a drag strip if the gearing/tire size is optimized.

Thumbs up Re: Which would you prefer in an Engine & Why...Look inside please...

Car B is going to be the quicker car and even quicker still witha slightly lower gear than A.

Torque gets it moving(dependant on traction) HP takes it out the back door(dependant on gear). If you have a big torque difference,I will take the most torque on a heavy car.If there is not a BIG difference,I would gear the HP to the max ie.4.56(dependant on tire size)and choose HP.
Boy, that's a definite "maybe" answer--It depends on a lot of other things other than dyno numbers for RWHP.
