Question Where can I get a keyed hub?

It needs to work with the ZZ4 crank for one piece rear seals. I have no clue where to find one of these hubs....

Keyed hub..... keyed hub...... keyed hub....... hmmmmm.....

What exactly are we talking about there? The balancer? Are you playing mix-n-match with different generations of engines for some reason? ZZ-4 is a kinda "known quantity" as far as parts go. I suspect you are doing something "different" here?

Well, I am using boost and may use more in the future. So a keyed hub is good insurance. I have heard that the ZZ4 crank has a keyed hub and works with the one piece rear main seal. As well it is forged as opposed to my stock cast crank. Funny thing is the stock crank is keyed but the hub is not? WTF is the deal with that?

If you are needing the hub for the harmonic balancer, for a LT1 you can get one from MORE performance. They machine a key way, then rebalance them. Not the nicest looking key way i've ever seen, but it works.

I don't mean to steal this thread but what exactly is keyed on an older engine that isn't on an LT-1? Having never ripped apart an LT-1 bottom end I guess I'm missing the issue here.

I'm guessing the balancer isn't cut to take the woodruff key because there's no need to line up an external timing mark on the outtter edge of the LT-1 balancer to set ignition timing, etc?

The 93's, probably most years, do not have a key in the crank for the harmonic balancer. The crank has a place for one, but they did not install one. On a lot of aftermarket motors guys like to put a key in the crank and hub to keep the hub from slipping. I have heard a lot of guys with blowers and superchargers installing keyed hubs. I put one on my 383.

I put on my my '94 as well - they are available from a number of advertized vendors - just ensure you get the correct one for your year - they vary in length depending on model year.

Crank diameter should be the same as stock

Does anyone know what the lengths are for the different years? I think they sent me the wrong one. I kept throwing belts after putting in the new motor. The belt was walking one rib towards the motor, then it would just eat the outer part of the belt off and start to fray. I switched to a 5 rib instead of the 6 rib and it will not throw it. It is all the way to the front on the altenator, but all the way to the back on the balancer. I think the hub i have must be for a 94 instead of a 93. Anyone know if they are different?

I belive there is a reluctor ring on later years that required a longer hub. Don't remember more than that... but I'll check when I get home.

Re: Where can I get a keyed hub?

the reluctor ing called for a shorter hub which is 96 and 97 cars considering the ring acts like a space hence needing a shorter hub

Nothing like waiting more than 2 years to make a "correction" to a dead thread.....
