Re: dome top pistons hitting

Yeah that's something you need to check on a dome setup and contour the pistons accordingly.

Re: dome top pistons hitting

so should i be taking some off the piston instead? wont that throw off the balance?

probe told me to take some off the head, in the combustion area. its hitting just beyond the sparkplug area. would the head be more idea to shape?

You're supposed to take it off the piston during the mock up stage(s) then send everything out to be balanced.

thanx guys, im no machinist myself. im just the lil ole squire following the knight and even knights can overlook something. the machinist has over 30 years experience doing sbc strokers, but this is our first Lt1.

ill know next time, but at this stage. can i avoid cutting the piston (interupting the balance) by grinding some off the head, or is it near a water jacket (too close) or something else? can i get away with taking some down off the head - or - am i pretty much having to cut the piston and get it all rebalanced???

thanx

Yep a rebalance will be needed but at least your bobweight will be lighter.

Re: dome top pistons hitting

Its hitting the heads? How much compression is that, cause it sounds like a tight squeeze. Also, I would of guessed that you'd see the valves hitting the piston first?

What kind of pistons do you have and how much were your heads milled?

I took some off my heads for mine, but it wasnt a stock casting so i cant comment on porosity/water.
