I'll host them!

Bersaglieri: No heat soak, better design with longer runners and more cfm.

I just have one pic in my files from PRI...

it's of the inside of the pleanum and it's pretty cool looking since you can cast the intake like this from the start....

There a was a thread on this topic roughly two years ago and the summarization of it all was that material and the equipment involved were too costly for it to be a profitable aftermarket part.

It's if it's a sema show part then it's probably most likley a 1 off part and cost $$$ money to produce.

I would like to see one made though...save me time and effort on a alum. intake.

I checked with a plastic injection company in Alberta just for giggles.

$20,000+ for the prototype, molds, etc. Unless you sell 100,000 units its not worth it.

I hope FAST produces one.

Do you think a plastic intake could handle a lot of power/boost without cracking?

Re: What happened to the Plastic LT1 intake idea?

The lsX intakes are plastic(actually composite i believe) and don't have problems with boost. It seems the major factor holding this up is the price of the intial molding startup. Has anyone ever tried taking a block of plastic and cncing it out? It seems like you could do it on our intake if you did it in two seperate pieces, one with the main body and one with the front portion where the throttle body mounts to which could be plastic welded on to the body after all the internal cncing was done.

Re: What happened to the Plastic LT1 intake idea?

I just thought about this the other day, would it be feasible to melt a couple of LS1 intakes and basically pour it into a LT1 intake mold. Anyone out there know the temp at which those thermal plastic intake melt? I know theres more to the entire process but just to get it off the ground.

It would be easier to make a fiber glass intake. If you want to do low volume that is.

exactly!
just take a large block of foam and a foam-shear and carve a mold, then fiberglass it. the materials would not be expensive at all, but you would have to make it a two-piece design so the mold could be reused. the bottom half being the runners and lower half of plenum, and the top basically just being the cap of the plenum. then you could slide the mold out and re-use it.
once the mold is out you could fiberglass the two pieces together, or epoxy it or something.
