transgo install
transgo install
ok----tranny guys, need input here. Tranny man put Transgo kit in my 93z. Worked great for 20 miles, then went to crap. 1-2 gear makes a grinding noise and sometimes shudders.3-4 gear has no line pressure, you can barely hear it shift.Afraid to drive it, he cant look at it for two weeks. lmk if anyone knows things he can check. hopefully nothing big screwed up. thanks,Pickerman
Normally I'd just move this to LT1 Tech, but since you posted there and didn't get a response of any kind, I'll leave it here for a while (until someond reports it as "posted on wrong forum"
). You might want to try a "TTT" on your LT1 Tech post.....

Trans-go definately isnt good for the OD trans. 12SCNDZ9my trans builder) lectured me about the transgo kit 2 years ago about why it was bad etc. If i didnt suffer from CRS(cant remember s___) i would be able to tell you what he told me.
You know, the only clear beef that I’ve ever heard about the transgo is about the 2-4 servo.
Now if you’ve ever actually installed one and _read_ the directions you’ll know that 1- it tends to be a PITA to install correctly and 2- all this crap that people post about “I’ve got more or less preload” in the 2-4 servo is just that, a load of crap. Yea, if you get the 2-4 servo tighter it will shift harder, for a short period of time, before it screws up the 2-4 band and/or warps the drum.
At that point there is nothing to be done except to rebuild, replace all the hard parts that come in contact with the band (even if you can’t see it they’re usually messed up and you’ll end up with the repetitive failures that people describe) and then start over again. It is very clear when the servo is installed and adjusted correctly, and it can be checked easily by using a screwdriver to feel how much play there is in the band.
WRT to the rest of the mods listed in that thread, most of them are part of the transgo kit (ex, the ‘vette servo, changing the check ball locations, drilling the passages…), and the “load release” springs that he warns against are not supposed to be installed UNLESS the trans is going to see some very high rpm use (I believe over 7000 or 7500rpm), and without them at that rpm the tranny won’t shift. The only other thing listed in his list of what to do that you do not get in a transgo is the thinner steels so you can use more frictions, which is something that you would buy during a rebuild, not a shift kit install.
I currently own 3 cars (well, one is my truck/parts chaser/tow vehicle) with a 700r4 or 4L60 with a transgo installed (well, 2 have an actual transgo, the 3rd I basically did all the mods and bought the hard parts separately for around $60), and they’re all working flawlessly, even the one that was installed in a marginal tranny (previous owner of the car trashed it spraying N2O till it wouldn’t shift) which has seen a ton of track use without a rebuild.
From what I’ve seen, I’d venture that 70% of the transgo and general rebuild problems are the result of an incorrect adjustment/assembly of the 2-4 band/servo, and the rest seem to be not keeping things clean enough when working on the valve body (I’ve pulled apart 2 friend’s trannies that came back from the tranny shop with assorted problems and both were fixed by just cleaning out the valve body and making sure that the check ***** were installed correctly).

i've been running a transgo kit for about 15,000 miles now and running pretty hard and my 4l60e is still working fine. now that is on a pretty much stock motor so no real power going threw it. we'll see how it does when i finish the 396.
