Seat pressure problems

Hi

Was to install my PAC-1220 springs in my AFR210 Eliminator heads, but ran into problems.

Due to the design of the Bee-hive retainer my max install height is 1.84" with +0.1" valves.... That would give me 170lbs seat pressure.....

Is it true that you loose appr 20lbs after break in?

What alternatives do I have?
- is there a +0,050" 8mm 10 deg valve keeper?
- is there a thinner spring seat?
- is there another retainer?
- find another spring?

Good springs are not going to lose much pressure.

You need different springs.

Like Rich said, you should not see more than 5-10 lb loss with performance springs.

So if I get them down to 160lbs@seat it should be OK with HR lifters?

Otherwise I guess I'll have to buy PAC-1518 springs....

My 2 options

PAC-1518 would give me

150lbs@1.74"
330lbs@1.163" (full lift)
Coil bind 1.08 + 0.06=1.14" OK

CC 26918
150lbs@1.73
365lbs@1.15" (full lift)
Coil bind 1.10+0.06= 1.16" scary close or?

Isn't there a good dual spring you could use? I'd like to see more on the seat.

My current pac-1220 would give me 170@seat, but that is maybe too much?

Maybe I can mill down the spring seats some, 0.5mm, that would give me around 163lbs seatpressure

Why do you think 170# is too much? Sounds good to me.

Hyd.roller lifters?

I thought 150 lbs was a general rule for max seat load with hyd.roller lifters?

I could give it a try and swpa springs to 261918 if I break any lifters, but I like to do it right first time......

It should not break your lifters. Too high an open pressure is the issue, not the seat pressure.

My springs are around 180-190# seat pressure and 470# open. Its too much for my hyd. roller setup, but I used Morel Hyd. Lifters and since 1 year there is no problem.

(BTW I will change my springs to PAC 1518)

Another option. Manley makes a nice beehive spring that is worth consideration. Part number is 221428.

It has 150# on the seat at 1.800". Has 355# on the seat at 1.200" height. Dimensions are essentially the same as the Comp 918.
