Dave,

RU still running an aluminum LT1 bellhousing with a pull style PP? If you are, I can't imagine the techs at the Grove would look the other way after your first pass.

Re: #s on my SB2.2 heads

thanks for answering my questions guys.. I just have one more, what causes a sbc2.2 headed car to burn up on a plate kit over a fogger? Is it like that with 18*, 15*, and brodix Canted valve heads also? I've been having dreams of owning a set of CV heads one of these years. Once again, thanks for all your guys help and input.

Re: #s on my SB2.2 heads

Steve, thats a real good question. I have the McLeod Street twin with the billet steel flywheel and I thought it was SFI rated but I'll have to check. As far as the bellhousing goes, I got an actual bellhousing blanket from a place in Arizona. It's not a trans blanket but one for a bellhousing. Problem is it's SFI 4.1 rated which is for an automatic trans flexplate, not a clutch. It's a beefy unit though. In addition I'm welding in 1/4" thick plate around the trans tunnel on the inside that will overlap the bellhousing area by quite a bit. I'm hoping if the techs see the effort I've gone through to conform and that there's nothing available they'll let me run. We'll see.

Dave,

Check my sig. An SFI Blowproof can be done with an Aftermarket (Third Gen) style T56. I did mine last winter cause I was skeerd. Your plate job will probably get you thru tech tho.

technically the flywheel doesn't meet spec, maybe because it wasn't put through the testing, i am unsure about that. i have a custom made blanket out of mine, that was built to spec, but because it was not tested has no sticker. ultimately i know it will keep my limbs attached

Do you still run a factory style 4th gen clutch or did you have to change that?

Yeah, I'm finding that out although it seems to me that when I bought the thing from internet racers supply, it was advertised as SFI approved
Perhaps I got the el-shafto grande on that one. How do they really check for the flywheel cert anyway? The blanket I got looks like a pretty hefty piece. I hope that and the plating will do it. How did you pass tech at Memphis for the PGDs?

Re: #s on my SB2.2 heads

From what I've read in the rulebook, 1/4 inch plate attached to the chassis surrounding the belhousing by 360 degrees will get you through tech. Otherwise, an SFI bellhousing is the only other way to be legal. Blankets don't cut it. The techies around here definately go by the book, so I have to do some creative mods on a Mcleod 8710-15 for the slave cylinder mount. Might even re-certify. LS1 boys have a bolt-in due to the internal slave, but we've been left out in the cold it seems. This is the only option I've found anyway, that satisfies the written word. Just a warning for the blanket guys..... but it does seem everyone's been getting away with it except me. I am out of luck with the tracks around here and need an SFI bellhousing for the next play-time I'm told. And that was just from the 10.87 runs.

Re: #s on my SB2.2 heads

i'm glad i live by one of the losest tracks in the world. I have gone into the 10's with just a helmet and drive shaft loop and never been yelled at. Have had buddies go mid 9's with fire jacket/helmet/loop/trans sheild but no cage and not get kicked off. I'm not saying that its safe but nice if you can't afford the saftey equip. At what point do they require a trans shield?

Dave,

I'm running a true long finger SFI certified softloc adjustable preload PP and a single sintered iron disk clutch plate. Internal Mcleod hydraulic TOB. Using standard Mcleod smallblock SFI bellhousing. Nothing factory (except the clutch pedal )

I've got a one word answer for this problem for me next year.

I'll do that but I've got a D&D for sale right now with the 30spline shaft good for 700hp. Interested?
