Pros/Cons of using an accusump?

Lately I have had to show the azz end of my TA to every wanna be performance Import crappola who thinks it is their duty to challange me, and I don't know how to back down. The Olds 455 is more of a torque monster than a high revver, plus it has monsterous 3 inch main bearings, so I try to keep the revs reasonable. I have become quite intrigued with the notion of adding an accusump as an insurance policy. Anyone have any imput on this particular system?

No personal experience with one but FWIW everyone I've talked to seem to think they're great. Everyone being primarily roadracers who manage to occasionally uncover the pickup despite having fancy oil pans.

Aside from the cost/packaging issues I've never heard of any downside to using one.

Can't think of any negatives to running an accusump and I don't know why more guys don't use them.

Maintainence is simple, they don't take up much space..... and yeah, that big poncho could use all the help it can get in the oiling dept. I'd say go with it man.

I think they are good insurance.

I plan to add one to my street prepared autox car. I am going to mount in the passenger side footwell. Run the lines beside the seat and then through the trans tunnel to the adapter.

Ron VerMulm is a very nice guy who is always willing to help and has everything you need. His CP autox car (3050 lb, 12" wide wheels, 50/50 weight dist.,500 hp) is truely awesome and has an accusump.

Definatley go for something in that department, having extra oil on reserve is worth it in any engine, and in the big blocks, it helps even more.

Also think bout adding maybe a 2 stage pump to create some good vacum in your oil system.

You cannot go wrong with one... especially with Olds big blocks which like to suck the oil pan dry at extended high RPM.

Are you running any oil restrictors or a larger pan on your motor?

The hardest part is trying to mount one as they take up quite a bit of room. The larger ones have a piston in them which allows mounting in any position. You can also get an electric solenoid valve with them that allows you to use it as an engine preoiler as well.
