Question Plenum Volume and Intake Elbow Q

I need to replace my intake elbow, and need to decide if I should go aftermarket, or stay with a factory piece.

I can't remember where I read this, but I thought I saw something stating that going with an aftermarket unit may not be the best thing to do because of the removal of the silencer tube. It stated that it (the silencer tube) not only quiets the intake (which I don't care about), but that it also adds to needed plenum volume.

What are some thoughts on this? I'd hate to go with an aftermket unit and sacrifice something.

I don't think you need to worry about the silencer tube. We've all seen the
conversions to 'ram-air' with improved results.

As far as I'm aware, any resonance tuning stops at the plenum/intake runners...
so this additional volume you are referring to shouldn't make a difference in
terms of performance, especially if the new system is less restrictive and
channels cool air into the motor.

So, since I have the SS intake system already, the benefits of the silencer tube already negated?

The LS1 lid style setup seems to be better than the LT1 CAI style but it takes a lot to go to that.

I definitely would like to go with an LS1 style setup, but it really is more work than I am willing to do (at this point) for my gains. Besides, I hope to go FI in the future.
