Lightbulb Pistons: Do they need to be matched perfectly gram for gram?

I have a new set of SRP Pistons that are being coated right now and the weight of each pistons is different as much as 1.2 grams. Should I balance them 100% perfectly? IS there any benefit? Is it a normal procedure that evereyone should be doing? any info would be nice! Thanks fellas

1.2 grams is much better than OEM tolerances. Some engine builders will get them a little closer, but 1.2 grams is plenty close. What you can do is put each piston pair that's closest in weight on the same crank pin, but it probably makes no difference either.

LOL, that reminds me of my buddy Jack . He'll spend all day long trying to get a crank within a tenth.

Well, I guess you can go ahead and call me ****, then. I matched each of my pistons to within 100 milligrams, and then did the same with each rod: big end to big end.

The engine shop in texas (Dallas Export Sales) then weight matched the whole reciprocating assembly to half a gram.

BTW, Denny I finished the ceramic coating on the piston tops. Now I have to do the skirts in DFL. The tops look pretty nice. Did you receive the link to the pictures?

Sounds like your all set to me.

When I had my bottom end balanced, they did everything with 1.0 gram.

So your 1.2 should be fine
