Ls1 Vs Lt1

I have a 1995 Formula with a Corvette LT1 with minimal upgrades, Cam, 1.6 Rockers, Hooker Long-Tubes, True Dual Exhaust, and CAI. I have the opportunity to purchase a stock 1998 LS1 305 HP. Question is, is it worth the effort? I am looking for more power, at a realistic price. Does the LS1 offer more potential, or am I better off turning my LT1 into a 396 and go from there? Thanks.

This is going to get moved, so I'll chim in real quick. The Ls1 does offer more pontential(15* head and bigger cubes). I thought about buying a LS1 instead of building my 396. Some thing to think about though. Is your car paid off?? If you can buy the LS1 car in cash go for it, but do you want to have another car payment. If your present car is paid for, I would invest your money into to that. On the other hand, Heads/Cam LS1's are going high ten's to low elevens. Same combo on a LT1 will yeild high elevens to low 12's. I still wouldn't give up my 396 now that I have it.

A large Cube LS1 and a Large Cube Lt1 are going to cost the same at one point, you just get more power to start with on a LS1. You can always change a LT1 over to 12,13,15 or 18 deg heads so you can always equal it out.

If you want to spend $15-20K they are both going to make the same power.

The LS1 with the C5R block does have more cube potential.

I think if you do a "search" in LT1 Tech, or in The Lounge, you might find a few threads debating this issue. It is probably more "emotional" than "Advanced Tech".

Closing.
