Re: LS1 vs LT1

All out build ls1=lt1
Bolt ons ls1>lt1
For couple main reasons
ls1 heaads flow better
ls1 heads are 15 degrees vs lt1 heads are 23 degrees
Ls1 aluminum block is at least 70lbs lighter but not as strong
If you have to build up a lt1 you use factory 2 bolt main block and splay it
If you want to build up a Ls1 all out, you would most likely have to ditch the stock aluminum block and go with 6ltr iron block or C5R block which is $$$.
Pretty much and even game when it comes to going all out.
But if you want to do bolt ons ls1 top end design is just better that is why they are faster to start with and react to bolt ons better.

They do use the same hydraulic roller lifters.
Rod bearings is what you were thinking of.

For a all out NA motor LT1 vs. LS1 even with the bad *** LS1 heads out there I still like converted SBC heads over the LS1 stuff anyday.

Come on Bret.
Standard SBC cam journal is 1.868"
LS1 is 55mm.

I hope you were talking to the other guy...

He said he thought that the cam bearings were the same... I corrected him and said that the rod bearings were the same size (2.100")

You would think I would know the difference between a R (Ford, LS1, 55mm) cam journal and a S (SBC) one since I do all these cams a month/year....

Re: LS1 vs LT1

i have a 97 ss 30th i like my engine wish it was a lt4 lolo .t plus i like the look of my white orange stripe all though the 35th with racing flag stripes is nice lolo. and so is the 2002 427. a 69 camaro would be the easiest to work on. but then id go lt1 i can tell you i race the hell out of my car i have 94500 miles its strong i dont like ls1 intake and all those ciols. i thing lt1 motor looks nicer lolol. the front headlights are more airodynamic on the ls1 id take my lt1 over the ls1 but out of the box the ls1 cars are a litlle more performance stock once you get into the world of mods you could have a pinto and beat both so what do you like more?

Re: LS1 vs LT1

Somehow I missed this little gem. Amazing how little real tech info can be contained in 2 pages of posts.

As usual.... UnstableBob's post wins "best of show"
