Good reply A-ram, but I'm actually putting the battery in place of the rear passenger side seat, I want to try and keep everything I add between the axle centerlines for better balance, weight distribution (road racing, etc...), so that's really the reason I was asking.

Thanks 95bird, that's good to hear!

I just think drag racing.. but does moving 13#'s around really matter that much for weight distrubution to spend the time/money to relocate it? If you are adding another extra 10-15#s in cable and boxes to move it you may make the distrubtion better but the car is also getting heavier overall. You could probably choose a battery that weighs less than stock but not as little as the 13# hawker if you really want to move it and it would probably start fine without every worrying about it and still add some weight in the middle/rear of the car if you like moving stuff so much Robert-o.

Or just keep a light battery up front and move the coolant overflow bottle inside the car.

How would these compare with the Optima batteries? I assume they are a little lighter but would an Optima be a better choice for a street car?

Optima batteries are not particularly light. The "redtop" units in my drag car are about 42 pounds each, installed. I use two of these batteries in the back of the car with no alternator. They power all systems including the ignition, Holley Commander 950, Product Engineering fuel pump, RacePak data logger, Meziere water pump, (on the return road) a single electric fan and, even a tail light at night. I typically recharge the batteries between rounds but I would not be worried about hitting them for up to three consecutive runs without a charge. They might go longer but I don't like to live on the edge.

Thats a lot to me!! Add in the battery box (1-2#s) too and all the other misc parts and it's well over 10#'s added to the car.

Didn't think you needed to have a battery box with a dry cell battery.

Plus, it's not about adding the weight (friggin EE's!) but where you add the weight.
