Question keyed hubs ???

>Since the LT1 cranks did not come keyed and the Callies DragonSlayer crank is , how do you make provisions for a LT1 crank hub to get keyed ? and where do you get the "keys" ?

You either have it done by a machinist, or buy one already done. I bought one from ThunderRacing for $80 and it came with the key -- that I had to grind to fit.

Thumbs up

>Thank you ... I will probably have to get a machine shop to do it since I bought a brand new crank hub . When a machine shop makes the provisions for the key do they need the crankshaft when they do it ?

CNC Cylinder Heads, Inc. in Pinellas Park, FL will CNC machine your LT1 crank hub, but I think they are expensive.

bowtiepwr,

The stock crank does come with the keyway machined into the crank but you need to get a key for it and get the stock hub machined but...
I though you got a new ATI balancer? It already comes keyed. You should be all set.

The key is called a "woodruff key" and many hardware stores sell them in various sizes. I'm using one sized 5/8” long, 3/16” wide, 3/16” tall, I think that's about standard SBC size.

>yes John I did get the ATI balancer 6 3/4" from ThunderRacings GP , but I didn't see any "key" in the hardware packing . And yes it does have the notch for the "woodruff" key (thanks to LPEdave for the nomenclature) I'm just trying to get everything for when my new engine gets here .
