Installing splayed main caps.

First off I will say I haven't really seen the in work process of installing splayed caps. Now I work in a non automotive machine shop and I would like to install some splayed main caps in a LT block. All I want to do is mill the blocks so they fit in the recessed area of the block. Then I plan on putting it on a boring mill and rough machining the new caps.

I would like some info from someone that has done this a few times.
I think I should check the registers on the block and see if the bore is offset one way or the other. Then when I machine the sides of the new caps to fit in the register I will want to try and make sure the bore on that is centered over the bore on the block. I plan on using a drill bushing while drilling the block for the splayed caps. But what are the chances of hitting the water jackets? Should I fill the lower portion of the block first? Then after I set the block up on the boring mill and indicate the front and rear caps in I can start opening up the new caps.

Does this sound like it will work or am I way off?

Thanks for any info you have to offer

What caps do you have?

You should be using the 10* outer ProGram flat caps. They will not break into water when drilling for the outers.

The block registers will be cut to 7.500"(check your caps to make sure this is correct)

Get the right caps, and do not cut them, cut the block to fit.

I have not ordered any caps yet. I'm just trying to decide if I want to tackle this. But when I was gettting prices for the machine work the guy noticed where I worked and he gave me the idea of doing it myself to help cut cost.

So you say buy the 10* program flat caps and cut the block register to fit the cap.

Thanks for the info.

The list above is very misleading. I read that and started to freak out because the part number I ordered looks like it belongs to a 4 bolt block... The dotted line (-------) indicates the part number above and the description below. Example:

BELOW IS HOW IT SHOULD READ

Part number XXXXXXX1
----------------------
Description for part number XXXXXXX1

BELOW IS HOW I READ IT AND IT IS WRONG!!!

-----------------------
Part number XXXXXXX1
Description for part number XXXXXXX1
-----------------------

Just an FYI,
