How much does my intake need to be milled??

My LT1 block was Zero decked and the heads were milled 40-50 thousands. Anyone have a formula to get it close?

I just has two intakes milled over the weekend.

Take the total number of distance removed (Milled heads, Thinner head gaskets, decking the block), then multiply by 1.2 for the sides, and 1.7 for the front and rear flat ends. ( This forumla was published in a small block chevy book a few years back)

For example; I had around .050 missing

.050 X 1.2 = 0.060 Needs to be taken off BOTH sides of the intake runners

.050 X 1.7 = 0.085 needs to be taken off the front and rear flat ends

It may seem like alot but it works, I tried to fit my own personal intake on both cars, it had been milled .050 off the sides. I could get the bolts to start if i had too but it needed more, and after using the formula it showed i did need more. I test fit both intakes last night , and they fit.

The correct way is to correct the heads, but they were already on the car and didn't want to may to have the heads disassembled, reassembles , and pay more new gaskets.

I payed $90.00 for the sides and one machine shop then i had to go to another shop and pay $50.00 for the front and rears.
