Guys with fast 6 spds, what do I need to keep from breaking them

What do I need to do to keep from snapping input or output shafts? I am thinking of having them cryo-treated. Has anyone else out there had this done? By the way, I am building a 383 motor with plans to spray it, I need to know what I have to do to keep from putting in an automatic. Thanks a bunch

Are you currently breaking your shafts??

Rich has a very fast M6 and isn't breaking anything.

The torque arm is relocated. No, I havent broken anything yet, except for that damn 3-4 shift fork...keeps getting stuck in 4th gear. I just know that sooner or later I'm going to have trouble with breaking output shafts. I've heard of a few done before, but I dont know the exact point power-wise that I am going to start breaking stuff.

I agree. Get in touch with D&D Performance:

And stop powershifting

~775rwhp (haven't dynoed it since going from 150 to 200hp nitrous) with still intact T56. I am getting it rebuilt with the Viper output (and ?input) shafts this winter to see if it's up to 900-950rwhp! If it breaks: G-force 5-speed.

Here's the pricelist for D&D for the G.M. T-56. You could upgrade to the viper T-56 for $3700...also from D&D...

Improper TA pinion angle is the biggest cause of broken input and output shafts.

One of my friends just ripped apart his input shaft. I think he set up the Sphoon TA with too much pinion.

Anyways, D&D is designing a kit to convert the f-body 27/28 spline input shafts to the viper/03 cobra 31/32 spline. Suppossed to come out sometime next year.

Either way, the t-56 we just tore apart is getting sent off the get all the internals cryo treated. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Mine keeps getting stuck in 4th gear also. When it first happened, I thought it was the shift fork, so I replaced it with the steel unit. Then out of the blue, about 3,000 later, while I was just driving normally, it got stuck in 4th again. I wasn't even getting on it!! I pulled the tranny out of the car about a month ago, but I haven't pulled it apart yet. I'm thinking I might have a bent shift rail or something. Anyone else have an idea as to what is wrong?? Thanks for everybody's help!!
