Cool Allright, Final camshaft questions i promise = )!!

Ok, i have been disscussing camshafts with some of you for the past month or so. My car has since blown a head gasket . but the good news is that my mom told me to take my time and redo everything while i was in the motor. I am going to have my heads cleaned up and rebuilt with everything, rr's springs, valves, etc....

I would also like to put in a camshaft. I have decided on the cc305 but have a couple questions. I am going to get in ground on a 112 lsa for sound purposes. based on the article about rr's that i started previously, i learned that 1.5's are less stress on the valvetrain than 1.6's. so should i also get the cam ground with the lift numbers that you would get out of 1.6's so that i could still run 1.5's and then if i wanted more lift later on i could always run 1.6's then? i hope this makes sense to you guys. thanks and have a good day all!!

If you run the lift of a cc305 with the 1.5rrs then move up to 1.6s you might have to worry about piston to valve clearance problems. I think that would make the cam have over .600 lift. (not sure about equasion for that one.)

Also having an auto you must worry about vacume with the 112lsa.

P.S.- Check your PMs

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the cc305 has .510 lift intake and exhaust. With 1.6 rockers, this would be .544...

Edit - I did not read the post carefully. If you had a custom grind with .544 lift with 1.5 rockers and switched to 1.6 rockers, the lift would be .580.

The CC305 lobes are both .340" You would need .363" lobes to get the .544" lift with 1.5 rockers. That would give .581" lift with 1.6 rockers. I know this will work fine with the stock bottom end.

Personally, I would go with different lobes if you are going custom anyway. In fact, I'm looking at these from Comp for my stock Impala heads:
XE - 3313- 270--218-139-.330-.495-.528
XE - 3315- 282- 230-151-.340-.510-.544

If I had screw in rocker studs like you do, I would go with one of the bigger exhaust lobes.

w/1.5 w/1.6
220/230 .544/.544 .581/.581 at a 112lsa

I doubt you can find springs that could work with those STEEP lobes without collapsing the hydraulic lifter. You WILL need a rev-kit and probably longer than stock valves and pushrods.

can you explain in more detail? how much longer pushrods and valves. What if i ran the crane spring that is rated to .600", would i still need a rev kit?? Would i need special lifters?? please give me more detail.

thanks
