ceramic coating question
Good question.... I don't believe coatings change the surface finish enough to cause a sealing problem. That'd be a question to ask one of the coating companies though.... if you don't get a definite answer here, I'm sure Swain could tell ya.

I just finished coating a set of pistons, and my guess is that its less than a thousandth thick. Considering that most aluminum heads that come into my shop that are aluminum are warped at least three thousandths...... not a sealing problem. After the finish is polished with 0000 wool it's probably a quarter of a thousandth.
The film lubricants go on a piston and wear to a couple millionths thick.
